Cigarette Daydreams- Cage The Elephant

My oversized black hoodie hung over my body like a blanket. I felt so stupid wearing it, but I had no more clean jumpers.

Today was Friday, tomorrow would start my weekend detentions for the next five weeks.

I went to Ms. Owen's classroom, saying a quick hello to her, before taking my seat in the back of the class. A few minuets passed and more students flooded in.

And of course being late to class, Ben finally came in a smirk on his pierced lips. "Hello, Ms. Owen." He taunted.

"Take your seat." She replied.

Ben shrugged. While he walked over to me, his grin dropped. I looked at the ground. "You're still here?"

I nodded weakly. I heard him scoff, obviously annoyed with me already.

A few minuets passed before another distraction. Ben poked me, making me look up from my notebook. I hummed, raising my eyebrow.

"What's with the stupid jacket?"

I froze a moment. I was trying to think but my mind was going blank. "I'm just cold, okay?"

Ben smirked, fidgeting with the oversized sleeves. I was afraid he'd lift up my sleeves to show my cuts. He'd make a huge deal out of it, alerting the whole classroom. Everyone would know. And they'd never shut up about it.

I jerked my arm away, earning a shocked look from Ben. "Stop." I grumbled, my voice surprisingly sharp.

Ben glared, turning away. He went to talking to another student, completely ignoring my existence. I decided to do the same, starting to play a random bundle of notes.

My attention was on my guitar. It was the only thing on my mind. I focused on trying to find something new to practise.

"What song is that?" The girl next to me asked.

I looked up, trying to remember the cords and notes. "Oh. I- it's not a song yet. I'm just working on something new."

She smiled. "Well keep it up, it's really good." I returned the kind gesture.

I pulled out my notebook, starting to write everything to work on later.

Class had been dismissed early, earning a loud chatter for the hallways.

"Oi! Carmen!" Someone called. I looked over and saw Ashlyn walking towards me, a tall brown haired boy with a lip ring, right behind her.

"Hey," I smiled, pushing the hair out of my face. The tall boy looked at me up and down.

"Me and my mates are gonna go out, wanna come?" She questioned, a hopeful look on her face.

I hesitated. The boys she was with looked intimidating to me. Their eyes were cold and I couldn't imagine the things they did on their free time.

In no way would I be able to fit in with them.

Ashlyn seemed to notice my discomfort. "It's okay. You don't have to go."
