Stay Away From My Friends- Pierce The Veil
»»»»

(Trigger warning)

I walked slowly out of the band room, my guitar over my shoulder. The thing was starting to feel heavier day by day. Sooner or later I'd have to start leaving it in the music room with Ms. Owen.

Ben had been pestering me about what happened to my face. I was starting to think of it as an insult, more than actual concern on his behalf.

I walked out of school, feeling exhausted. It was as if, I didn't care about my life anymore. That's what the exhaustion felt like. I was tired. Of everything.

The girl, Ashlyn, hung out with me during lunch for a while. But when she saw two boys who gave her a certain look, she excused herself. After that, I was alone the whole day.

We had moved seats in history. Now Ben's friend, James, was seated behind me. He was actually very nice, and made me laugh from the silly way he said certain words.

Ben was now seated on the other side of the classroom, insuring that I wouldn't get picked on for the hour.

I trudged on, finding my way home. The guitar, that would seem like nothing to carry for a normal person, was starting to make my knees weak. I slipped the strap over my shoulder, setting it gently onto the floor.

I ripped off my book bag, letting it crash to the ground with a loud thump.

My mum and dad were at work, leaving me alone for a couple of hours.

I sprinted upstairs to my room, took out my Blink-182 CDs, and blasted it until I feel asleep.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, shaking me awake. "Huh? Mum?" I grumbled, rubbing my eyes.

"Nope. It's me, silly. Ashlyn."

My eyes opened wide. "How are you here? Why are you here? How'd you get in?" I rambled, my heart pounding out of my chest.

"Calm the fuck down. One question at a time, Carmen," Ashlyn smiled. "By the way, I used my dark magic to get in here." She joked, wiggling her fingers.

I gave her a blank stare, my mind racing along with my heart.

"I'm joking. You live right next to my best friend's house. When I was walking in with him, I saw you opening the door." She explained.

"Why didn't you just come in when I was still awake?"

Ashlyn's face went red. "Um- my f- friend and I had a...project."

There was a moment of silence as she blushed profusely, and rubbed the back of her neck. I soon made the connection.

I gave her a knowing smirk. "So you're best friend's with certain benefits."

Ashlyn gasped, pushing me lightly. "Don't say that! Everyone says that. We're just friends who give each other comfort and...I guess we're each other's outlet for the hard times."

I smiled. "That's sweet in its own way."

Ashlyn gave me a look, as if saying, that's a load of bullshit and you know it.

"Uh- I- sorry..." I mumbled. I decided to try again. "Well, do you want more?"

Groaning, Ashlyn buried her face in her hands. "I do! But he doesn't love me, and I can't say that I do...but...you know..."

I furrowed my brows. "Can't you tell him how you feel?"

"I've tried. But all he does is just starts kissing me and I forget everything." She brought her head to her knees. "Fuck. Maybe I am in love..."
