Jasmine's POV
So there has been another attack. Collin was petrified when he went to see Harry. The film in his camera was destroyed. On the bright side, Harry made a complete recovery and has full work of his arm again. The staff never found out who tempered with the bludger though. But according to Harry, who told Hermione and Ron. Hermione says a house elf called Dobby did it and he also stopped Harry from getting through the barrier. But why would Dobby do that? Did the Malfoy's order him to? I have to find out.
I went to an empty classroom and call for Dobby. He soon appears. "Miss Snape, how may I help you?" he asks bowing.
"Is it true you tempered with the barrier and bludger? That you performed a hoover charm in Harry's house?" I ask him.
"Yes miss" he says bowing his head lower.
"Were you ordered to?" I ask him.
"No miss" he states. "Master would be mad if he knew Dobby was leaving the house without him miss. In fact I will have to punish myself for being here" he squeaks. I sigh, knowing I won't get anything else out of him.
"That is all Dobby, you may go. But please don't punish yourself to harshly, you know I hate it" I tell him. He bows and disappears. I sigh, why would Dobby do this without being ordered too? I didn't even know house elves could do things without permission of their masters. I should do more research on the matter.
(Time skip)
Hermione stole somethings from my dad's store room. When I asked, she said she was making a potion. She asked if I could help. I agreed to help make the potion. But I wouldn't do anything else. We are brewing it in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom.
It's a polyjuice potion. I don't know why they want to make such a complicated potion and I didn't ask. I promised dad I'd stay out of trouble. But I couldn't resist the opportunity to brew such a complicated potion. Maybe I should have been in Slytherin. Oh well, I love being a gryffindor and besides it can be considered brave brewing such a potion without adult supervision while in second year. I don't think we even start learning about it until year six. I wonder how the others got the book with the recipe inside, as it was in the restricted section. Hermione assured me they broke no rules and got permission from a teacher. But the only teacher stupid enough to give them permission is Lockhart.
Anyway, a dueling club has been set up. I wasn't gonna go. But then dad told me he'd be there. So I decided to come. Just to see my dad wipe the floor with whoever was dumb enough to go against him. I went to the great hall with Hermione, Ron and Harry. The long dining tables had vanished and a golden stage had appeared along one wall, lit by thousands of candles floating
overhead. The ceiling was velvety black once more and most of the school seemed to be packed beneath it, all carrying their wands and looking excited.
"I wonder who'll be teaching us?" Hermione muses.
"Two teachers are, my dad is one of them" I state.
"Maybe professor Flitwick is the other. Someone told me he was a dueling champion when he was young" she states.
"As long as it's not..." Harry starts to say. Then stops with a loud groan as Lockhart appears on stage. My dad behind him.
"Gather round, gather round! Can everyone see me? Can you all hear me? Excellent!" Lockhart says cheerily. As we gathered around the stage. "Now, Professor Dumbledore has granted me permission to start this little dueling club, to train you all in case you ever need to defend yourselves as I myself have done on countless occasions for full details, see my published
works" he tells us.
"Let me introduce my assistant, Professor Snape" he states. "He tells me he knows a tiny little bit about dueling himself and has sportingly agreed to help me with a short demonstration before we begin. Now, I don't want any of you youngsters to worry you'll still have your Potions master when I'm through with him, never fear" he tells us.
"Wouldn't it be good if they finished each other off?" Ron whispers to Harry.
"You forgot Ronald, one if my father" I remind him. He gives me a sheepishly look. Lockhart and dad turned to face each other and bowed. At least, Lockhart did, with much twirling of his hands, whereas dad jerked his head irritably. Then they both raised their wands like swords in front of them.
"As you see, we are holding our wands in the accepted combative position," Lockhart explains. "On the count of three, we will cast our first spells. Neither of us will be aiming to kill, of course" he states. He counts down and dad fires a disarming charm at him. There was a dazzling flash of scarlet light and Lockhart was blasted off his feet. He flew backward off the
stage, smashed into the wall, and slid down it to sprawl on the floor.
I cheer along with the slytherins. "Way to go dad!" I shout. He sends me a small smile.
"Do you think he's alright?" Hermione asks worriedly.
"Who cares?" Ron and Harry ask her.
"I don't" I answer. Lockhart was getting unsteadily to his feet. His hat had fallen off and his wavy hair was standing on end.
"Well, there you have it!" he declares as he walked back onto the stage. "That was a Disarming Charm as you see, I've lost my wand. Ah, thank you, Miss Brown" he says as Lavender hands him his wand back. "Yes, an excellent idea to show them that, Professor Snape. But if you don't mind my saying so, it was very obvious what you were about to do. If I had wanted to stop you it would have been only too easy however, I felt it would be instructive to let them see" he lies. Dad was looking murderous.
We are then split into pairs. Dad split me and the other three up. Harry with Draco, Hermione with Millicent from sytherin, Ron with Seamus and me with Lavender. Honestly, couldn't he have put me with someone more competent. At least give me a challenge. I mean I have more experience then anyone in my year in dueling. He knows that as he has trained me. We were supposed to disarm our opponents only, but none of us listened. In fact I hit Lavender with the pumpkin head jinx, it was hilarious seeing her trying to remove it and stumbling around.
While Lockhart freaked out, dad took charge. And reversed the jinxes. Harry had to separate Millicent from Hermione. Harry and Draco were then called onto the stage to demonstrate. Draco summoned a snake, which Harry spoke to as it headed for Justin. Dad made it vanish. But not before I saw it relax as Harry spoke to it in parseltongue. I had no idea he could talk to snakes. Hermione and Ron took him out of the great hall. While the session ends.
"Jasmine!" dad calls and I head over. "Did you have to use that jinx?" he asks me.
"You were the one who paired me with her" I state. "I wanted a real challenge" I tell him. "Can we do some dueling practice before I go home for Christmas?" I ask him.
"Of course" he tells me. "Now run along, I am sure you have homework to do before bed" he states. I nod my head. I returned to the common room and started my homework.
The rest of the lead up to Christmas break was uneventful. Aside from the double attack. Justin from Hufflepuff has been petrified and Sir Nicholas was attacked also. Everyone thinks Harry is the heir of slytherin. Because he can speak to snakes. Which is just ridiculous. As one of his best friends is muggle-born and he defeated Voldemort twice. Why in the name of Merlin would he attack anyone? Let alone a cat, a pair of muggle-borns and a ghost?
Anyway, dad and I did get some dueling practice in. We also started to finalize details for me becoming an animagus. Which we will start over the summer. I am so excited and can't wait to see what I turn into. I helped dad brew some potions for the hospital wing. Had a snowball fight with the twins and quidditch team. Got all my holiday homework done, so that I could focus on enjoying my time with mum while we go on holiday. She hasn't told me where we're going yet. But promises it'd be fun.
