Second Year Train Ride

Jasmine's POV

I am having breakfast with dad. While we wait for mum. She'd be coming with us to the station. Both will be seeing me off. "Dad, can I ask you something?" I ask him.

"You just did, but you make ask another" he states. Not looking up from the Daily Prophet.

"I've been thinking and I was wondering if I could please have an owl?" I ask him.

"You did not want one last year. What has changed your mind?" he asks me curious. As he puts the paper down to look at me.

"I know mum and I were in Romania. But I missed not being able to write to my friends. Or being able to receive letters as we don't have an owl" I state. "Sure Ron's has Errol, but he isn't up for long flights. So I was wondering if I could have an owl?" I ask him. "I'd be able to write to mum while at school without having to borrow a school owl. I could owl my friends over the holidays and I could write to you when I am with mum" I explain.

"It's not a bad idea, I shall discuss it with your mother" he states.

"Discuss what?" mum asks as she joins us.

"Don't you knock?" he asks her.

"Obviously not Severus" she tells him. She kisses my forehead and seats beside me. "So, talk about what?" she asks him.

"Jasmine wants an owl" he tells her.

"What about Lady?" she asks me.

"I love her, but I can't send or receive letters with her" I tell her. "I'd want both to come to school though" I add as I look up at dad.

"I'd need to get permission from the headmaster and that is if we get you an owl" he tells me.

"We shall discuss it" mum assures me. "Now finish your food, or we'll be late" she tells me. I finish my food and she cleans the dishes with a wave of her wand. I put Lady in her carrier and we leave the house. We got into mum's car and she drove us to the station. We got there in plenty of time.

Dad got me a trolley and we all went through the barrier together. "I'll see you at the feast and no causing any mischief with those Weasley twins on the train" he tells me.

"I promise" I assure him with a smile. He smiles gently. "Promise to write mum?" I ask her.

"Always dear" she assures me. "Be sure to work hard and try not to kill Lockhart. No matter how much he gets on your nerves" she tells me.

"Can I prank him with the twins?" I ask him.

"Can hippogriffs fly?" she asks me and we laugh. She hugs me tightly. "I'll miss you" she tells me. "Take care of our daughter Severus" she tells dad. He just nods his head.

"Go board the train and I shall see you at school" dad tells me. I nod. I hug mum one last time and then dad. Who pats me on the back. Before I let go and board the train with my luggage.

"Jasmine!" someone calls I turn to see Draco. "Want to seat with my friends and I?" he asks.

"Sorry Draco, but I already promised to sit with someone else" I lie. "Perhaps next time" I tell him. He nods his head and goes back into his compartment. I head the other way and soon find Hermione with Neville. "Hi guys" I say with a smile as I enter.

"Morning Jasmine" Hermione says.

"Hello" Neville says. They help me put my trunk into the luggage rack. I then let Lady out and we sit down.

"No sign of Ron or Harry?" I ask them.

"Not yet, but I am sure they'll be here" Hermione states. "Though they are cutting it close" she adds looking out the window at the clock. "Oh there are the Weasleys" she says smiling.

"I'm sure they'll join us shortly then" I state. "So how was your summer Neville?" I ask him.

"It was alright, I didn't go anywhere though" he states.

"You went to Romania, didn't you Jasmine?" Hermione asks me.

"Yes, my mother and I stayed at the dragon sanctuary there. It was a lot of fun" I state. "How was your summer?" I ask her as the train starts to move.

"It was nice, I really missed mum and dad during school. They closed the practice for the first two weeks of summer. We went camping in the Forest of Dean. It was a lot of fun" she states.

Just then our compartment door opens. It was Fred and George with a first year girl. "There you two are, this is our sister Ginny" George tells us.

"Ginny these are Hermione, Jasmine and Neville. Friends of Ron's and Harry's" Fred tells Ginny.

"Pleasure" Hermione says with a smile.

"Hello" Neville says.

"Would you care to join us Ginny?" I ask.

"Only if it's ok" she states.

"Of course" Hermione and I tell her.

"Great" the twins says. They helped her put her trunk in the luggage rack. Before leaving.

"You're dog is cute" Ginny tells me.

"Thank you, her name is Lady" I tell her.

"Do you know where Ron and Harry are?" Hermione asks.

"No, they were the last to come through the barrier" she states.

"Maybe they are seating with Dean and Seamus" Neville suggests.

"Perhaps" Hermione says. "Though we all agreed to ride together" she states.

"I can go look for them" Neville offers.

"Thank you Neville" Hermione says. He leaves us. "Are you excited for your first year Ginny?" she asks her. But Ginny doesn't answer, she was looking out the window. At something. Lady barks at something out the window.

"What is it girl?" I ask and join them at the window. "Is that a flying car?" I ask shock.

"What?!" Hermione exclaims and joins us.

"It looks like dad's car, but why would it be here?" Ginny asks confused.

"They didn't" Hermione mutter.

"Certainly sounds like something they'd do" I tell her.

"What are you talking about?" Ginny asks us confused.

"We think Harry and Ron are flying that car" I tell her.

"But why?" she asks. "They were right behind us at the barrier" she states.

"Maybe they couldn't get through for some reason" I suggest.

"Yes, but why wouldn't they send Hedwig or wait for Ron's parents?" Hermione asks.

"This is Ron and Harry we're talking about. Do you think they actually thought about that?" I ask her. She remains silent. "Exactly, I just hope they weren't seen" I state looking up at the car as it disappears into the clouds.

"The car can turn invisible" Ginny tells us.

"Then why did we see them?" Hermione asks.

"Maybe it's faulty" I suggest. "Anyway, I'm sure they'll tell us all about it tonight" I state. "So Ginny, any questions about school?" I ask her. As we all retake our seats.

"Is it true your Professor Snape's daughter?" she asks.

"Yes and don't believe everything you hear from your brothers. He cares deeply for all the students at Hogwarts. He just doesn't show it" I tell her. The rest of the train ride was uneventful. We all got changed into our robes and Neville rejoined us at lunch time. When we arrived Hermione introduced Ginny to Hagrid. Before we got a carriage together with Neville to the castle. The carriage was fun. Though I do wonder what's pulling the carriage, I'll ask dad.

When we arrived at the castle, we took our seats a the gryffindor table. I notice dad not at the staff table, strange. Anyway, once all us older students were seated. The first years were brought in and sorted. Ginny joined gryffindor and her brothers we very proud. Then the feast began as dad appeared. But he left quickly with McGonagall and Dumbledore, they must be dealing with Harry & Ron. Oh well, I focus on the feast. Which was amazing as usual.
