I still couldn't believe what had happened earlier.
Every time I thought about it, my stomach did this stupid little flip.
Not because I regretted it.
That would have been easier.
I didn't.
That was the problem.
Korbin and I had spent weeks pretending there wasn't something happening between us, and somehow, every time we were alone, all that pretending fell apart.
Now we were supposed to meet tonight at eight and actually finish Mrs. Greene's project.
A month.
An entire month had passed since we'd first been assigned it.
We had finally gotten somewhere the second time we'd worked on it, but "somewhere" wasn't exactly the same thing as finished.
Tonight was supposed to change that. We were going to finish the project.
That was the plan.
I repeated it to myself as I walked down the hallway. Finish the project.
Nothing else.
Except I knew myself. And I knew Korbin.
Neither one of us had been very good at keeping our distance lately.
I reached my locker and spun the combination. I had one more class before I could leave, and I needed to grab the rest of my books.
I opened the locker and started moving things around.
Then I heard footsteps behind me.
"Seraii."
I froze. I knew that voice.
I slowly turned around.
Zane.
My eyebrows pulled together immediately.
Why was he walking toward me?
This was the same Zane who had been acting weird at that party earlier in the year.
The same Zane who had tried walking up to me last week like he had something important to say. I'd shut that down before he could even get started.
And now here he was again.
Standing in front of me with a smile. I stared at him.
