When someone dies, you feel like the world should stop spinning. It never does, and it didn't for Jeongguk either. It just keeps going, and you wonder how. How do the people you meet on the streets just continue as if nothing's happened? Why doesn't anyone care?

Your world stops, nonetheless, but after a while, it resumes its cycle, and even though it takes time, it eventually catches up.

Slowly. Every day a little shorter than the previous.

It's just not the same world as before; the color lost along the way. With no one to talk to, you keep your secret. Your siren.

Then it comes; the first anniversary. It's painful, and you find yourself standing on that cliff, watching the waves crash into the rocks below. At first, it stresses you out because you truly feel as if you can't keep up with the world around you, but by the fourth, you don't care. It hurts, but in a way, it's beautiful how the waves stop for no one. Not you, not even for Jeongguk.

They say that time heals all wounds, but in your case, it only makes you numb. You don't cry as often anymore when eight years have passed and Jeongguk feels more like a distant memory. Especially after a house fire destroys the beautiful box containing the dried-up, dark scales.
