Evangeline ~~~~~~~~~~~
On day two we entered the forest. Right away I knew this wasn't a regular forest. I know magic when I see some. There was a feel to this place that just screamed magic. I knew Jasper felt it too, the hairs on his back were rising up like he was ready to pounce on anything that moved. Every thing was perfect about the place like the forest was planned out, every grass, rock, water droplet, and tree. Jasper was smelling everything, telling me everything smelled beautiful. I was looking at the perfection of the place when I didn't notice we stepped into a ring of mushrooms.
Vladmire may not care that much about me, but he cared enough to warn me about fairies and I just stepped into their land. The ring of mushrooms acts like a gateway to their village. They are usually out in the open so they stand out more. Silly humans step into them and are transported to the villages. There the fairies make the humans eat their food, which turns them into fairies themselves. That's how the fairies repopulate.
As Jasper and I shrunk down to fairy size to enter their world all I could think of was how to get out of this alive. I remember briefly Vladmire saying something about befriending one. So that's what my mind was set on, how to befriend a fairy.
With a blink of an eye we were suddenly in a little town. The houses were made of acorns and flowers. Many insects were helping the fairies with the workload, but the most fantastic things of all were the fairies themselves. They were absolutely breathtaking. Their wings were all different shades of colors with intricate patterns. Their clothes were cut out of leaves and died many different colors of the rainbow. I wanted to be a fairy, to join, to be beautiful and have wings.
"Psst," a voice said, breaking me out of my trance. I looked around until I saw a fairy motioning to me in the shadows. Jasper was already bounding over to her. He was obviously still in the trance by the fairies' magic. I quickly walked over there. Who knows how long I would have lasted if I wasn't broken out of the trance.
The fairy in the shadows led us to a broken down house. The flower was wilted and the acorn was breaking in places. As we all got inside I got my first good look at the fairy. She had short, boyish brown hair, almost the color of the wilted flower on her roof. Her wings didn't have a pattern on them and her clothes were brown leaves you would see at the base of the tree, almost decayed with time. Somehow, I didn't fall under a trance with her.
"I'm Perri," said the fairy, after the coast was clear, "I know you don't feel a trance with me. That's because I don't like using my powers. Fairies don't actually look all that beautiful, we use a special magic to make everything about us and our homes look perfect."
"Really? So everyone's just fake except you?" asked Jasper, finally out from the spell.
"Exactly, well except the queen. She's really that perfect," Perri said, "There is one fairy in almost every town who doesn't use magic, we try to save humans. Most fairies hate humans and want to dispose of your kind, but I find you guys incredible and so do a lot of others. We're called the Human Safety Society or the HSS for short."
"Well, to get out of here we need to befriend a fairy. Can you be that fairy?" I asked.
"I've helped too many humans already. We need another fairy. Follow me. Maybe I can finally recruit a new member in this town." Perri walked out of the door slowly with Jasper and me on her tail.
We kept to the shadows so we didn't pull attention to us. Perri stopped after a while and pointed at one fairy.
"That's Dean. He's new so he has never befriended a human yet. Let's get him."
Before I could ask what we were going to do, Perri walked out of the shadows and ran towards Dean. All the other fairies ran away from the fight. Perri probably wasn't the most popular fairy in the town. Dean tried to fight back but Perri was faster. Every punch he threw Perri easily ducked. She got him in a position finally that he couldn't hit her and dragged him back into the shadows. Everything happened so fast my brain still had to rethink everything that happened.
"Run!!!" Perri screamed. Even though my mind wasn't thinking it, my body started running with Perri back to her house. In her house we tied Dean up to one of the old chairs Perri had. I finally got a good look at him. He had straight blond hair with piercing blue eyes. His clothes were blue like the sky on a good day with the sun shining down. His wings had a design of swirls with a blue tint
"Now take off your magic," Perri commanded. Suddenly the perfect boy melted away. His blond hair went limp, his piercing blue eyes were dull, his clothes were the color of the sky on an ugly day. His wings had ugly swirls and were a grayish color. It was weird to see how much changed with him without his magic on.
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. It wasn't a friendly knock either, it was a hard knock, like someone wanted to be let in now and would not go away until someone did.
"Hide!" cried Perri, a look of surprise and worry on her face, whoever was behind the rotten wooden door was not someone friendly. The other fairy already put on his magic and looked handsome as ever. I ran with Jasper in my arms to an upstairs attic area of the house. There was a bunch of dusty boxes lying around with many nooks and crannies. I squeezed into the smallest place I could find and adjusted the boxes to hide Jasper and me. It was a hard task to perform, with Jasper awkwardly on my lap. I tried to make the boxes look naturally there and at last I had successfully moved the boxed. Below I heard Perri open the door.
