Everyone looked at me, even Wallace, who doesn't even know of my mark. I sighed and walked over to the tree, giving my bag to Wallace. Jasper looked over the bag and I saw the one good eye of a tired Nia, her eyes barely even slits. I stepped up to the tree and saw the branched of the tree move like hands.
"I have a symbol," I said, hoping my voice wasn't shaking.
"Show me," said the tree, I saw the bark move when it talked like the tree had a mouth.
I turned my back to the tree and pulled down my shirt where the symbol is.
"The Ender," the tree said, "It is my pleasure to see you at last." I heard a gasp escape from Wallace.
"No wonder," he said under his breath. I turned back around and saw that a chest appeared in front of the tree. It was white with silver accents. I opened it up and saw the most beautiful sword. It had a blue handle with a crystal in it. It was thin a shiny silver at the blade. I picked it up and could feel power coming from the sword to me. In the wrong hands this sword could be the worst weapon, but in the right hand, it could be used to save the world.
I turned back to my friends and looked at Wallace.
"What do you mean 'No wonder'?" I asked him.
"When you were fighting the elves and big blast of magic came from you before you saved Nia. It blasted all the elves back," he said amazed at what he saw. I realized that it wasn't an invisible hand that pushed them away, it was my magic that I had no idea of. I walked passed my friends and saw that a bridge had appeared. I sat down at a tree near the bridge and feel asleep.
When I awoke I it was night. My friends were at a tree across from mine talking in hushed voices. I looked over at the bridge, that now had lit lantern that glowed a creepy blue, and saw a dark figure on the other side. The person had a cloak that flew in the wind that suddenly picked up. Behind the figure was something that floated at head level. I soon realized the thing was in fact a human and the two were Vladmire and Barric.
As they got closer, I got up and walked over to them. My friends stopped whispering and looked up at me. Seeing the figure they got up and walked over to me. When we got to our end of the bridge I could see Barric and Vladmire better. Vladmire's cloak covered his face in dark shadows that made his face look more like a skull than a living person. Barric was asleep behind him, looking more handsome than ever than a forced sleep. We met in the middle, my friends behind me.
"Did you get the sword?" said Vladmire with his familiar cold voice.
"Yes," I said, holding it out to him.
"No, I can't touch it, you must do it," said Vladmire, looking at the sword with fear.
"What do you mean?" I said, not trying to hide my panic.
"You must kill the boy," Vladmire said with a sneer. My heart missed a beat, I couldn't kill Barric. Vladmire dripped Barric to his knees, his head hanging down. He then made my legs move to Barric's right side, the perfect angle to cut off his head. Barric's hands were tied behind his back, like he would wake up. As if on cue, Barric looked up at me and smiling the smile I missed all these days.
"Evangeline! Where did you go? I missed you so much!" he said, happy to see me. His smile slowly faded as he looked around. He saw the sword I held, he saw Vladmire's ghostly face, he saw my friends, the fairy, the two cats in a bag, and a human, and he saw that he was on a bridge in the middle of the night, on his knees with his hands tied.
"Evangeline, what's going on?" he said, very scared.
"Oh Barric," I said, crying for the first time in a long while, "Run while you can."
"He can't," said Vladmire's cruel voice, "Kill him now Evangeline. You can't possibly love him. Your family betrayed you after you tried to save them. I was the only one who cared about you. I taught you so many things and if I die, you will have no family."
I could feel him trying to convince me with his magic too. My hands started to raise up without me even thinking.
"EVANGELINE NO!" cried Fiona, from behind Vladmire, "You're better than him, don't listen to him!"
"Shut up you fairy," Vladmire said, flicking Fiona away. She was flicked hard and I couldn't see her. My hands were still going. He was right. I tried to save my family and all they did was betray me, all they did was make me stay with Vladmire. Vladmire cared about me. He wanted me to be the best I could be. He gave me chores because he cared. I laughed at that thought that Vladmire put in my head. It was ridiculous to think that, but my body thought it was true.
