"See? We should've gone with Math..." Khai whispers to me quietly.

I scrunch my face at the little weirdo.

Rassler stares at Hazel momentarily, then slowly looks back to us.

"You two don't even have English together?" He asks to confirm.

"Uhh..." Khai says worriedly, making eye contact with me.

"Why...?" Rassler questions, trying to piece everything together. "I hated homework, why would you two make up your own assignment?"

"April fools!" Khai exclaims.

"Khai it's December." I remind him quietly.

"December Fools?" Khai offers.

I shake my head.

"He's kidding. We were just practicing our interview skills but clearly we suck so we're gonna head up to Khai's room and re-evaluate." I say.

Khai looks to me, eyes full of appreciation. He turns to his parents, nods and smiles once more before running up the stairs.

"I better make sure he doesn't trip." I say before abruptly leaving as well.

When I get to Khai's room, I close the door behind us. Khai and I glance at each other, then both burst out laughing.

"Wow, that went so much better than last time." I say sarcastically once I calm down a bit.

Khai chuckles some more.

"At least we're having fun with it. This morning it was just... unpleasant and uncomfortable."

Khai glances down at the ground and stays quiet for a few seconds. When he looks up to me again, his eyes are soft and tender, full of something wholesome.

"I'm really glad you're doing this with me, Ty. It means a lot to me that you want to help me get to the bottom of these things."

I smile at him.

"I'm happy to." I reply. "Any time spent with you is time well spent."

Khai smiles and glances down again, tucking a strand of hair behind his ear. He shyly looks up at me again.

"You're so patient. I don't know how you put up with me."

"Well, to be fair, you put up with me." I reassure him. "Not that it's a competition, but you win. I'd argue it's a lot harder to put up with me then it is with you."

Khai chuckles again, then continues staring softly into my eyes.

I want to kiss him so badly. However, there's so much going on in both of our lives.

But will there ever even be a perfect moment? What are we waiting for?

Life isn't just going to be free of worry some day. There's always going to be something.

"I suppose we do make a really good team..." Khai says, still hung up on our conversation. "But it just feels like we've only been having setbacks."

He pouts, then sits down on his bed.

It takes me a moment to collect any thoughts, probably because he seems so unpredictable right now.

Before I can come up with anything, he continues.

"We need to get this figured out, Ty. It feels like we're not getting anywhere and it's frustrating and now I have to cross 'crime reporter' or 'journalist' off of the list of things I can never be because I have next to no interview skills, so I also can't be a manager of anything at all because they also have to interview people, and maybe-"
