"Your hand too? Jeez, Khai, what did you do?" Tyrone adds.
I explain my late night shenanigans to him while I invite him inside and close the door behind him..
Tyrone just shakes his head at my dad, who hasn't moved from where he is.

"My dad's gonna bring us to school today." I mention when I notice Tyrone visibly shaking from the cold.

"Oh, nice." Tyrone replies before breathing into his hands to warm them up. He rubs them together momentarily, then begins taking off his boots.

"Did you eat already?" I ask.
Tyrone looks up at me and nods.

"You?"

"Yeah, I did, too," I reply. "You're here early."
Tyrone finishes taking his boots off and stands up straight again.

"I couldn't sleep much. I kept waking up." Tyrone replies.

"Ugh, that's the worst. Are you okay though?" I question.

"You're the one with a cut in the hand," he says with a slightly amused smile.

"Yeah, I know... but you look exhausted." I put in.

"I am, but I'll be okay." Tyrone assures me. "I think the better thing to be thinking about is how you're gonna take notes today."

"Oh... shoot." I say, finally realizing. I hadn't thought about that yet.

"I mean you got me but I'm not sure how reliable of a note taker I am. And not to mention we have some different classes."

"I'm sure I'll figure it out," I say. "Besides, it's not like it's broken... I mean it'll probably hurt a bit to use it but that doesn't mean I can't."

"Regardless, I'll help you out where I can." Tyrone offers.

I smile at him appreciatively.

We make our way into the kitchen, and both sit at the island counter.
I study my dad, who has his head turned towards the kitchen window on his left, watching the world outside and seeming deep in thought.

I feel like something is off and it's making me a little uneasy. I want to talk to Tyrone about it, but obviously I can't right in front of my dad. And now he's driving us, so we can't talk on the way to school. Hopefully we get there early enough for me to have time to talk so I won't have to hold it in until lunch.

I glance at Tyrone again, not wanting to ignore him. He too, seems lost in thought, but more like he has too many thoughts, whereas Rassler seems to be pondering.

I wouldn't normally consider myself an intuitive person, but there's definitely something going on with both of them.

I'm more concerned with Tyrone in the moment, probably because he's biting his nails and still seems shaky. Realistically, he hasn't really had enough time to warm up, but still.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I ask.

Rassler faces us again, and Tyrone's gaze drags back to me as he slowly turns his head.

Tyrone leans forward slightly and rests his arms on the counter instead, as if he can undo me seeing him biting his nails.

"I just got a lot on my mind," he tells me after a few seconds. "But I'll be okay, I promise."

I watch him hesitantly, not entirely convinced. It's like he thinks he's not allowed to be struggling while I'm not at my best.

Which is ridiculous, especially since I'm doing good emotionally. I may be a little compromised physically, but that doesn't mean I'm incapable of caring about him. In fact, it's actually nice to have someone else to focus on.
