Chapter Twentyseven

We were about four miles away from the safe zone, but to me it still wasn't far enough they could still catch us if they had cars or anything else. We kept walking trying to keep with in the darkness of then night blending in, "Alexis?" I said looking back at her as she started to slow down, "Alexis what's wrong?" I looked at her worried we may of pushed her to hard, "I could of sworn I heard someone walking behind us, I heard foot steps...more than one person," She looked back squinting her eyes trying to see. I looked behind her as well trying to see of I saw anything, but all I saw was the darkness of the night surrounding us, "Maybe they were walkers," I mumbled as I grabbed y katana, "Maybe," She said as she started walking again.

"Should we stop here for the night?" Seth questioned me as Alexis went off, "If walkers are behind us we should keep moving the father away we are the safer we are," I said to him as I walked off, "Oh okay," He said sounding as if he was lost with what to do next, "So Katherine how did you two girls end up all the way over here?" Nick asked me, "We weren't alone," I mumbled as I thought of Alex, Zack, Jake, and everyone else who was in our group, "Those boys you came with you knew them?" Seth asked me as he walked beside me looking down at the ground. My heart pounded as thoughts of Zack came flashing back my heart started racing faster as I thought of Sean and Kelly also came into play, "We found them along the way Alexis and Danny were the newest to our group, but before then we had been running and moving from place to place for almost a year," I paused, "Everyone slowly died and our group got small, but together we were able to hold it down for one another," I could feel the tears building up on me as I kept thinking of how it was like losing my brother and Sean...losing Kelly and Zack, Alex and Jake, Brandon and Christi...all of them gone and only Alexis and me left in the end.

"I'm sorry I asked you that I should of known better," Seth started to walk ahead of me, but before i could tell him to drop it something caught my eye, "Katherine, come take a look at this!" Alexis screamed as we reached the top of hill leading to another city. As I reached the top I looked over to what Alexis was pointing at, "Looks like hell broke out," She said as she grabbed ahold of her guns, "Take these," Nick said handing me two guns as well, "They look like small little ants from here," Seth managed to say, but I could tell he was scared of what was going to come next, "Hope you boys know how to fight, we don't have much ammo and once its gone your going to have to learn..." Nick stopped me, "Lets just go with what we have now," He stopped as he looked back out.

The flames from burning building and homes made the sky a dark orange and the city ahead of us held not only hundreds of zombies, but millions and maybe more all tearing down what was left of the city, "We can't just go and run in there blind sided!" Seth shouted as I started walking, "What else can we do! We have to pass through here to get to the next city and away from anyone who's after us!" I screamed at him as an explosion came from behind me, "There has to be another way with out us risking our lives!" Seth voice rose once again. I looked over at Alexis and saw her laughing, "So you thought you would come out here and get by easy and not have to risk your life's! Ha you both must be crazy! we warned you how it would be now your going to have to fight if you want to live, and even if it kills you, you die fighting or die giving up! There are no rules out here there are no easy ways its just you and the weapons you have you trust no one and you also leave no one! This is Zombie world like it or not there is no short cut you fight or you die you live or you get to be one of them! It's your pick Katherine and me have been through it now you two can learn on your own!" Alexis stomped off to the side sitting down and just looking out towards the mess we were headed to.

For me I had never heard her sound like that never had I've seen her so mad, but i understood her because once I had said the same kind of thing to Zack and the others the words would spill out your mouth and the words wouldn't stop till what you felt was numb and gone. This world turned people cold, people killed each other just over a bottle of water, but even before this world people would kill other people for what? Drive by little kids getting shot or seeing there mother or father getting shot in front of them...and them not knowing what to do. I have to say there are a lot of reasons why the world may be the way it is today.
