Chapter 8 — Scarlet Eyes

(Y/N)'s P.O.V.

The air felt heavy.

No...

Terrifying.

Kurapika stood in front of us while his scarlet eyes glowed brightly within the dark library.

His aura filled the entire room.

I couldn't move.

Even breathing felt difficult.

"...Kurapika." Angela whispered softly.

But he didn't respond.

His eyes remained focused outside the shattered windows.

The distorted voice chuckled again.

"Interesting..."

A figure slowly appeared from the smoke outside.

Tall.

Covered in dark clothing.

And smiling.

My stomach twisted immediately.

Definitely not normal.

Kurapika's chains slowly appeared around his hand.

Clink.

The sound alone made me nervous.

"...Stay back." he said coldly.

Another presence suddenly appeared beside the first figure.

Then another.

Three people.

No...

Nen users.

Asael immediately stepped forward.

"I'll handle the one on the left."

Kurapika didn't look at him.

"No."

"What?"

Kurapika's scarlet eyes narrowed.

"They came for me."

The pressure in the room became worse.

One of the strangers suddenly laughed.

"Aw~"

"So protective."

Before I could even react—

BOOM!

The floor beneath the windows exploded.

"Y/N!"

Kurapika immediately grabbed my wrist and pulled me away before debris could hit us.

Everything happened too fast.

Smoke filled the library.

I coughed violently.

What the hell is happening?!

Suddenly—

A figure rushed through the smoke directly toward Kurapika.

FAST.

Too fast.

CLANG!

Chains blocked the attack instantly.

Sparks flew across the room.

Kurapika's expression darkened.

"...Phantom Troupe." he muttered.

My eyes widened.

Wait—

THE Phantom Troupe?!

The attacker's grin widened.

"Looks like you remember us."

The temperature in the room suddenly dropped.

No...

That wasn't the room.

It was Kurapika.

His aura became horrifying.

Even the attacker stopped smiling.

For the first time since I met him—

Kurapika genuinely looked like he wanted to kill someone.

And somehow...

That scared me more than the enemies themselves.
