"WHO WOULD LIKE TO SOLVE FOR THE VALUE OF X ON THE BOARD?"
Sensing someone's gaze on you, you stopped doodling on your notebook and craned your neck upwards, only for the math's instructor's eyes to meet your own. You quickly diverted your attention back to whatever you had scribbled on your book.
"Miss Forger, What about you?"
"Sir, I didn't raise my hand up..."
Without warning, D'André sprung up from his seat and raised up his hand, taking his seat mate by surprise.
"Sir, I can do it."
The instructor gave D'André a smile. "Thank you, Mr Desmond. Please step forward and answer it for us." You sighed deep down when the teacher turned his direction back to you.
'What does he still want from me???'
"I'm sorry Miss Forger, but I would really like to see how you would go about this question. How about you solve it along Mr Desmond?" As he handed you a piece of chalk, you gave him the nastiest glare you could before walking down to the board where the brunette had already began working out the question.
'Why couldn't he just leave me alone??'
Without a moment's hesitation, you quickly wrote the answer on the board.
x = -17
'She didn't even work it out?! So the rumours are true. She must be a genius '
Facing the teacher again, you caught him with his mouth agape as he crosschecked his notebook and your answer on the board.
"Ah, Miss Forger your answer is correct. But, where's your working?"
"I did it in my head."
"Ahh I see. Could you please show us how you did it?" You sluggishly spun around and began writing on the board again, finishing just a second before D'André. The instructor compared your workings and answers.
"Ah correct answer Mr Desmond. The working is excellent. Just as expected."
As soon as he complimented the boy, he looked at your answer then at you. "Miss Forger, your working is not correct."
'She must've guessed it right the first time. Maybe the news about her being a genius was just a bluff.'
You scoffed, pointing at the board.
"But it is, Sir."
The man's eyes grew wide as he went through your working again, realizing you were actually right.
