Morning at Valor Lakefront began with the sound of hammers, paper, and excited Coordinators.
Workers were still finishing the Wallace Cup venue near the lake, and the resort paths were full of decorations, food stalls, and contest banners. The place smelled like fresh paint, lake wind, and breakfast from restaurants that were already busy before the Cup even started.
While we waited for May to arrive, Lillie suggested a light training session near the edge of the venue. Dawn practiced small splashes with Piplup instead of forcing a full routine, and I watched her smile whenever Piplup added a tiny flourish of his own.
The last female Burmy watched the workers from Lillie's shoulder.
She had not evolved on Route 214. The grass had fit one sister, and the sandy tunnel had fit another, but this Burmy had ignored both environments like she knew her answer had not arrived yet.
Now she stared at the artificial materials scattered around the lakefront. Paper streamers, wrappers, stage cloth scraps, and tiny bits of packaging had been swept into a cleanup pile near the path.
"Do you want those?" Lillie asked gently.
Burmy hopped down and began gathering the scraps carefully, not stealing decorations still in use. She mixed paper, foil, and thread into her cloak until the shape looked strange, bright, and perfectly hers.
A group of wild Starly flew overhead, startling several smaller Pokémon near the venue. Burmy pressed flat against a pile of discarded cloth and paper, blending into the human-made clutter so well that even I lost sight of her for a moment.
"Burmy?" I called, scanning the cleanup pile carefully.
Her cloak rustled, and light burst from the pile.
When the glow faded, Wormadam stood there in a cloak of refuse and metal-like scraps, her body calm and hidden against the resort scenery.

Wormadam, Trash Cloak, the Bagworm Pokémon. Bug and Steel type. Its body is composed of refuse, blending into human-made scenery to evade predators.
One nervous Starly swooped too close to the cleanup pile. Wormadam lifted her cloak, and a bright metallic flash shot outward, not striking hard, but scattering enough light to make the Starly veer away from the smaller Pokémon.

Mirror Shot — Steel type. The user releases a flashing metallic burst from its body, striking with distorted light that may lower the target's accuracy.
Wormadam's meaning came quiet and satisfied. "This cloak is mine. I was waiting for the right place."
Lillie knelt and touched her cloak carefully. "I am glad we waited."
Dawn crouched beside Wormadam and studied the new cloak with the serious focus she usually gave appeal seals.
"She waited until the scenery matched her," Dawn said. "Maybe that is a Contest lesson too."
Lillie smiled at Dawn. "How so?"
"If the Pokémon is not ready for one stage, forcing it there will not make the result better," Dawn answered slowly. "You find the stage where the Pokémon can be itself."
Piplup nodded loudly as if he had been teaching that lesson all week.
The thought stayed with me as I watched Wormadam settle near the cleanup pile. She did not look like the leftover Burmy anymore. She looked like a Pokémon whose delay had been part of the answer, and that made the Wallace Cup venue feel less like pressure and more like a place where unfinished things could finally find their shapes.
