Route 212 did not welcome us gently after everything that had happened with Shaymin and Gina. The road looked like a normal route on the map, but the ground itself seemed determined to argue with our shoes.
Mud swallowed footprints, reeds hid shallow pools, and every few steps someone had to warn someone else away from soft ground. The storm clouds gathering over the northern side only made the route feel heavier.
Dawn hugged her ribbon case close under her jacket while Lopunny walked beside her. After the Hearthome goal was mentioned again, Dawn had been thinking more about Contests, but Route 212 did not care about anyone's plans.
"This road is worse than it looks," Dawn said, lifting one muddy boot with a grimace.
Tox did not even look surprised.
"That is usually how marsh injuries happen," Tox said. "The safe-looking ground gets trusted too quickly."
The mud pulled at Floatzel's feet in a way water never had. He could glide through pools and ferry smaller Pokémon easily, but heavy marsh ground slowed everyone. Gallade had not evolved yet, Drifloon still drifted lightly beside us, and the whole route felt like it was testing which kind of movement each Pokémon trusted.
Pikachu stayed on my shoulder with his ears tilted forward.
Pikachu's meaning came cautious and practical. "Soft ground lies. Test before stepping."
"Good rule," I said, tapping the next patch with a stick before crossing.
The road also made the whole group quieter than usual. Gina's warning about Dusclops still sat in the back of my mind, but I kept it there instead of dragging it into today. Dusclops walked beside me without demanding anything, the single eye watching the rain clouds like it understood that some doors only opened when the right cold wind arrived.
Lillie noticed my hand drift toward Dusclops's Poké Ball and touched my wrist gently.
"Not every answer has to happen the first time we think about it," Lillie said softly.
"I know," I said. "I am trying to let today be today."
That was harder than it sounded. Our journey had started making every route feel like it might hide a legendary warning, a Galactic machine, or an evolution waiting for exactly the wrong stressful moment. Still, Route 212 had its own voice. Mud, rain, flowers, and shelter all belonged to this place, and I needed to hear that before forcing yesterday's shadows onto it.
A sweet floral scent drifted from the side path before the rain fully started. Roselia reacted first, lifting her flowers toward a half-hidden patch of old garden stones west of the Pokémon Mansion.
Lillie knelt near the stones and brushed wet leaves away from a small incense container. The scent became stronger, soft and rosy without being overwhelming.
"Rose Incense," Daniel said, recognizing the shape. "That should connect to the Roselia line."
I remembered Solaceon Day Care and how incense could affect breeding records. Roselia leaned closer, her flowers glowing gently as if the scent belonged to something younger than herself.
The Rotom Phone chimed after scanning the incense and Roselia together.
Pokédex Entry Updated — Ash and Lillie's Shared Sinnoh Record
Budew, the Bud Pokémon. Grass and Poison type. When bred from the Roselia line with Rose Incense, it can hatch as a small Pokémon that blooms when raised with care.
"This is not a capture," Lillie said softly, storing the incense carefully. "But it explains where Budew fits."
Roselia's meaning came warm and nostalgic. "Small flower before thorns. Small courage before bloom."
