Vedant opened his eyes when he felt an unfamiliar weight resting against his palm. Blinking away the remnants of sleep, he looked down and found his wife sprawled across the bed in the most impossible position imaginable.

At some point during the night, she had completely abandoned her side of the bed and invaded his.

Her head rested comfortably on his shoulder while she lay almost horizontally across the mattress. One leg hung dangerously close to the edge of the bed, and one arm was tucked beneath her cheek. Completely unaware of the chaos she had created, she remained fast asleep.

A smile immediately found its way onto Vedant's face. There was something strangely peaceful about watching her sleep.

The stubbornness that was always present on her face during the day had vanished completely. The endless complaints, arguments, and dramatic expressions were nowhere to be seen. In their place was a softness that he rarely got to witness.

Carefully, he slipped his hand beneath her head and shifted it from his shoulder onto the pillow. The movement caused her to stir slightly, and he froze instantly, his eyes fixed on her face as he waited.

Her brows knitted together for a brief moment before relaxing once again. A soft sigh escaped her lips, and she settled deeper into sleep.

Only then did he release the breath he had been holding. Reaching down, he gently lifted her dangling leg and placed it properly onto the mattress before pulling the blanket over her.

Eventually, he reached for his phone resting on the bedside table.

4:45 AM.

Placing the phone back on the table, Vedant looked at Shivya again. He told himself he would get up in a few minutes. Leaning back against the headboard, Vedant allowed his gaze to settle on her face.

His wife slept peacefully beside him with one hand tucked beneath her chin. A few loose strands of hair had escaped during the night and now rested across her forehead.

For once, she simply looked at peace. His eyes lingered on her longer than they probably should have. Time flowed quietly around them while he continued watching her sleep.

A few minutes turned into more than an hour. He did not know why it felt so difficult to look away, maybe because there was something deeply comforting about knowing she was here.

Or maybe because he still found it difficult to believe that the woman lying beside him was actually letting her guard down around him.

Whatever the reason, he remained exactly where he was. By the time he finally glanced at the clock again, nearly an hour had passed.
