The first impact came so hard it felt like the entire highway shifted beneath them.

Metal screamed against metal as a black Charger appeared out of nowhere and slammed directly into Mani and Dinah's Honda, sending a shower of sparks exploding across the darkness. The smaller car lurched sideways, tires squealing violently as Mani fought to keep control, and for one terrifying second Beyoncé thought they were going over the guardrail.

"MANI!"

"I'm good!" Mani barked back immediately, though her voice sounded strained beneath the roar of engines.

The relief barely had time to register before another set of headlights appeared in Rihanna's mirror.

Then another.

And another.

Like wolves emerging from the dark.

"Stay on him!" Rihanna snapped, jerking the wheel hard enough to throw Beyoncé against the door as two vehicles came flying toward them from opposite lanes.

The Honda shot through the narrowing gap with inches to spare.

Beyoncé's heart slammed against her ribs.

The woman driving beside her was completely fucking insane. A fact that normally would've concerned her more. Instead she found herself grinning.

"Yuh tink dis funny?"

"You know what?" Beyoncé grabbed the dashboard as the Honda narrowly avoided another collision. "Lil bit."

Rihanna shot her a look that clearly suggested she'd lost whatever sanity she'd started the night with.

Then another vehicle clipped their rear quarter panel causing The Honda to fishtail. Beyoncé's grin vanished instantly.

"Aight. Cool. Never mind. Not funny."

"Dat's what I thought."

Then the radio exploded with commotion. Not orderly communication.

Pure chaos.

"Yo what the fuck?! Who's fuckin' shooting at us?!" Nicki shouted.

"My tire! My fuckin' tire!" Lani yelled over her.

"Get this bitch off me!"

"Rih!" That last voice hit differently.

Dinah.

The panic in it made Beyoncé sit upright immediately. Because Dinah didn't panic.

Not ever.

Not unless something was seriously wrong.

"Dinah?" Beyoncé grabbed the radio. "Dinah!" Nothing. Only static answered.

The silence that followed was somehow worse than the gunfire. Then Mani's car suddenly swerved across two lanes before correcting itself at the last possible second.

"Mani!"

A pause.

Then—

"They hit her." The words came out low. Furious. Terrified. Not the car.

Her.

For a moment Beyoncé forgot about the ambush entirely. Forgot about the truck. Forgot about the dozens of headlights surrounding them.
