Chasing Shadows (Lego Ninjago)

Chapter 10: Memories

The vision was a bright, joyful, happy moment. They could sense the peace in the air, feel the relaxed breeze on their faces.

We all sat in pairs on 3logs perched around a glowing fire that Kai had created with his Elemental power, which glimmered against the midnight sky, the odd jewel of a star twinkling high above us. The roasting smell of marshmallows filled the air along with laughter at the terribly funny jokes Jay was telling. Kai was sat with Zane, Jay with Cole, I was with Reanne. Her head rested against my shoulder, my arm was around her neck, stroking her soft hair. Reanne's feet were tucked up on the log, mine were also on the log, but stretched out. I looked my emerald eyes down into hers, which were like gems.

"Lloyd?.." She whispered.

"Hmm?"

"Don't ever leave me" Her voice had gone croaky because she had gotten tired, aw.

"I wasn't planning on it" I smiled, she was so beautiful "I love you, Rea"

"I love you, Lloyd"

The scene changed, the picture broke off a floated around, and then formed another scenario.

Kai and Reanne were playing 'Just Dance', by the looks of things. Her hair was tied back in a high pony-tail, and was wearing a dark purple onesie with different black emojis on. Kai was also wearing a onesie, it was red, of course, with the flames of fire rising up on it. They were jiving, spinning, body-popping around, following the ridiculous dance moves that appeared on the screen. They could hear the laughs from Cole, Zane, Lloyd and Jay, who were sitting on the couch, being entertained by their terrible dancing.

Jay had just shoved Reanne into a river! He had heard her shouting his name as he darted away. Jay turned around and jogged backwards so he could laugh at her drenched figure. She had a smile tugging at her lips. Lloyd didn't look too happy that Jay had just pushed her into the river, but he couldn't hide his laughs, just like; Zane, Kai and Cole. She reached him and pounced like a lion would on its prey, both of them tumbling around and into the stream next to them in laughter.

They were sitting in the branches of a tree, Cole and Reanne were on a mission. She pointed to the right and gasped, Cole head spun around to see what she was pointing at..nothing..he felt her whack him on the back of the head before jumping down from the tree, The Ninja of Earth sighed shaking his head with a laugh. Once he had jumped down fro the tree, he shoved her gently back into a bush. Nothing could separate the two cousins.

The snow felt lovely..but not in Zane's face. Reanne had decided to throw a ball of snow into his face. Jay, Cole, Kai and Lloyd had found it hilarious. They were the ones that had started this snowball fight. She giggled as she skipped toward the Nindroid and plopped another snowball onto his head, Zane looked at her and she smiled. After she grabbed his wrist and pulled him down into the snow..they lay there making snowangels.

There we all were; Me, Reanne, Zane, Cole, Kai and Jay, each of us in their Ninja gi's. Mine was my old green suit, this meant we were in the time before the Overlord was destroyed. We were in a wooden training course, infact, it was the all-to-familiar training course of Destiny's Bounty.

We were all practising some sort of fighting; contact, duels with our weapons or Spinjitzu, like myself and Reanne were. She had just come out of a twisting black Tornado of Spinjitzu exiting in a low position ready for a fight, her eyes landed on me and a wide smile spread across her face.

I smirked as I spun over to her in my green Spinjitzu Tornado, and purposely knocked into her, sending her onto the wooden floor with a 'thunk' with me landing on top of her in a heap.

Reanne raised on of her eyebrows and grinned, I also grinned and wiggled my eyebrows then flung my head back laughing. Reanne also chuckled to herself as I looked back down at her, my grin back into my natural smile I rarely did. We heard a couple of 'ooohhhs' from the boys, but ignored them.

I ran my finger down one of her smooth cheeks, and tucked a loose strand of silky, raven hair behind her ear. She put a hand on my wrist, a smile tugged at her lips which where a breath away from mine.

Then, just as I thought a kiss was coming along, she spun over the top of me and pinned me down instead!

Those were only a handful of memories that were returned. All of them; the battles, the laughs, tears, eating, messing around in general just flooded back to them, their life with Reanne, like they had never been forgotten in the first place. At that point, something in the vision changed. It snapped into a darker colour, the feeling of peace and relaxation gone, replaced by fear and desperation, the image of happiness broke away, rebuilt by a scene of sorrow.

We were on the floor, conscious, but severely injured. All of us except Reanne, who was standing over us, protecting us, with her Elemental Blades in both hands held out infront of her, ready to swipe. I couldn't hear what was going on, I had hit my head when I was knocked over and my senses were disorientated. And there appeared The Shadow Man, it looked like he was tutting as he did.

I lifted my arm up and clenched it into a ball, but due to my lack of energy my arm gave way and fell to the ground behind Reanne's feet. The 'plonk' noise of my arm hitting the rock ground caused Reanne to look down at me, tears welling up in her eyes.

She knelt beside me and placed one of her blades down, I had rolled over onto my back and was trying to grasp any breath of air. My sight had gone all splotchy, and everything was hazy. I felt Reanne's soft hand on my jaw line, pulling my face to look at her, I put my same hand on top of hers and held it tightly.

"Whatever he wants..don't do it" I wheezed, I knew that's what I said, even though my hearing wasn't great.

"I'm sorry.." I heard Reanne sniff and salty tears ran down her pale face, dripping on the hard ground "I have to do this"

"Just..don't do it!" I coughed "Please..stop.."

"I promised to protect you" She leant over me and placed a delicate kiss on my lips, I kissed her back like it was the end of forever, maybe it was..the end of my forever "Remember..I'll always love you"

She pulled away and regained her stance, I couldn't speak, it just came out as a heave. I tried to grab onto her hand, but I was so weak, my hand just fell away. Letting her go. Despite how much it was killing me, I couldn't do anything about it.

The next few seconds was a blur, Reanne had moved and stood next to The Shadow Man, from what I could see, a pained look on her face. It was like he had forced her to do something..whatever it was. They both raised their hands and pointed them at us, a dark blue mist shot directly me and the Ninja on the ground, it began to make us splutter and choke. I lifted my arm up again and spoke with the last amount of energy I had left.

"No..I won't..forget..remember..I love you.."

Then, all our memory of Reanne, everything we had of her, was lost. Nothing but emptiness.
