Jesse sat back in his chair, stroking his chin and and processing the scene through his mind.
"Perhaps something more delicate," he suggested. "It is quite a calm scene, if you know what I mean?"
Phillip nodded slightly. "Indeed. Good. That's really good, Jesse," he said, snapping his finger at him.
"Thank you, sir," Jesse smiled.
"You have blessed ears. Now, there's something I must discuss with you. There's been a movie I've been interested in signing on to, and since you're my assistant, you're opinion is important since you'll be working on it with me," Phillip explained.
"I'm all ears," Jesse stuttered. His heart suddenly started beating faster. This was his first movie they were talking about.
"Okay, I know I'm throwing you right into the deep end with this. It's a big production, and do tell me if we're getting ahead of ourselves here. But you strike me as a DC comics fan, am I right?"
Jesse couldn't stop the gasp that escaped his lips, and he wheeled himself backwards a bit.
"No way," he muttered, his mouth hanging open.
"No way?"
"No, no, no. I meant yes. Yes, I am a huge fan! I used to read them as a kid. And I've seen all the Batman movies. And The Flash... Oh my God."
"I've been sent a contract for Batman Vs Superman. So I'll take it that you want me to sign us both on?"
"Definitely. Count me in, big time!"
Jesse was letting his excitement get the better of him, but it was hard to keep control of it.
"Right, well I've got some papers to sign. Take a break. I'll meet you back here in an hour," Phillip said, before packing up his laptop and swinging the bag over his shoulder.
Jesse practically ran out of the building and called Beca, knowing it was the best way to calm himself down.
"Oh, hey Jesse. You've caught me just in time. I've just left my meeting with Charlie and Colin," Beca said.
"Next time I see you, we are having a superhero movie marathon, got it?" Jesse demanded.
"What? Why?" Beca sounded confused.
"Because you're talking to the assistant composer of Batman Vs Superman," Jesse said, trying to sound really cool.
"Holy Crap. You're joking," Beca said.
"No I'm not. This is so fucking awesome," Jesse wasn't sure what else to say.
"I'm so proud of you, babe. I can't believe it! You've got your first movie so quickly! So you got any idea when we can have that marathon?"
"Well, when do you move into your flat?"
"On Wednesday."
"You think I could come stay for the weekend? I'd also be able to pick up that stuff I left at your dad's," Jesse offered.
"Sure thing. I'm sure Chloe will be okay with that. See you Saturday then. I love you, Jesse."
"I love you more."
"You wish."Jesse sat with Damian, a young casting director he had become friendly with, in the cafeteria while they ate their lunch.
"Batman Vs Superman?!" Damian almost choked on his pasta when Jesse had told him the news. "Woah, that's a biggie. You're a lucky lad. I applied for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, you know, a good British one closer to home for me. But I sadly got rejected. The other bloke hasn't done too bad though. Eddie Redmayne's a good choice for the lead. But Matt Smith was taken for consideration. He could've done with it for his break in acting, but ah well..." Damian talked in his English accent.
"Yeah, it's tough. The only reason I'm in is because I'm assisting Phillip. Once I get out there as a main composer I'm sure I'll have a feel of my own rejection many times. I'm just building a resumé at the moment," Jesse explained.
"Well, you'll have one hell of a resumé the way your going, mate. I went straight in with nothing, but I guess I'm getting by so I can't complain," Damian grinned at Jesse, before having another mouthful.
"Man, I love LA so much. I need to persuade Beca to move here with me," Jesse said, partly to himself.
"I'm surprised your girl didn't follow you, being a producer and all. With your career paths you should have both kicked off here," Damian said.
"I know, but she already had a secured job in Atlanta. Now she's working with Charlie Puth and she's met Snoop Dogg. I think she'll be hard to move," Jesse said.
"Hmm... I guess."Later that evening, Jesse was sitting in his hotel room, watching TV and chilling out. He thought of how he was going to see Beca in less than a week, and he was really looking forward to it. Her face played on his mind all the time and it wouldn't stop making him smile. She was his world, and after four years of their relationship, he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to let her go.
Jesse's phone began to vibrate in his pocket, and he took it out and checked the caller. It was Benji, who he had talked to a couple of times since they parted.
"Hey, what's up, Benji?"
"Hey, man. I just wanted to ask you something. How do you cope with a long-distance relationship?"
"Oh, God. I'm new to this too you know..."
"I know, I know. But you've been with Beca since like, forever. Me and Emily only started going out a couple of months ago,"
"Okay then. Well, I'll advise what I'd think would be the best thing to do. Firstly, call her all the time. But not too often so you don't seem clingy, let her call you too. Make sure you never forget to tell her you love her, because that's when things get rocky. Visit when you can, and invite her over when she's on break. I'm not sure what else, because that's pretty much what me and Beca are doing," Jesse explained.
"Cool. Thank you. It's just, I'm a little worried, you know? I don't want it to end really quickly," Benji said.
"I understand, bro. I'm being optimistic and hoping that it'll be fine. I'm sure you'll be too, you and Emily adore each other," Jesse reassured his best friend.
"Thanks, Jesse. What would I do without a friend like you?"
Jesse laughed. "Talk later, yeah?"
"Sure thing. See ya," Benji ended, and then the sound of the TV filled the room again.
Long-distance relationships were surely not as hard as everyone made out. Jesse and Beca were still fine and it had been about a month since they last saw each other. They called each other during the day and skyped each other at night. They were going to be fine and he knew it, there was nothing at all to worry about.A/N
Hello everyone! :) I wanted to mention that I'm going back to school tomorrow and I'm starting my GCSE year, so I won't be able to update as frequently. I will post a chapter every few days or so, as oppose to how I've been posting every day. Not completely sure how it will be, but I've heard it's a busy year. I'll update on Friday. Thanks again for reading, and don't forget to vote ;) Comments also much appreciated :)
