The city of Los Angeles was definitely a busy one, especially when it came to creative industries of all kinds. There was a not-so-small studio in Santa Monica which was particularly hard-working, and at that moment in there sat the members of BechloeX, having just wrapped their second album.
"You proud, Becky boo?" Chloe asked happily, resting her feet on the table as she sipped on her iced lemonade.
"Feet off the table, bitch. What are you, five?" Beca exclaimed jokingly.
"I'm still feeling like it," Chloe laughed, spinning in her chair with her arms in the air.
Beca rolled her eyes. "And apparently you're married..." She muttered.
"Just because I'm married, it doesn't mean I'm any more mature than before. I mean, Dylan and I still go trick or treating," Chloe said.
"Please, just leave off children for a few years. You're still kids yourselves," Beca smirked.
"Speaking of marriage, you and Jesse are way past your sell-by-date," Chloe commented, chewing on her straw.
"Ugh, I've told you. I don't want to get married. It's just not me," Beca muttered, fiddling with an SD card which was lying on the table.
"So you're just going to date for the rest of your life? You've been together for seven years, and we all know this isn't what Jesse wants," Chloe told her.
"He hasn't proposed-"
"Because you're so forceful about it and he doesn't want to upset you. But frankly, I think what you're doing is completely selfish," Chloe stated.
Beca sighed. "I don't need to hear this from you. Not now. We're supposed to be happy about finishing the album, so why won't you just go and get the champaigne from the fridge," Beca demanded, quickly cutting off their conversation.
Chloe raised her hands in defence. "Okay. I was just giving my opinion," she mumbled, leaving the room.
Beca stood up slowly and headed for the bathroom, thankful that Chloe was now out of the way so she could do the thing that had been nagging her all day. When she entered the bathroom, she stared at her reflection in the mirror. At the age of 25 she was still young. There was no pressure to get married just yet, right? But she knew that what she was about to do could have an impact on that view. Was she being paranoid? Just because her parents' marriage didn't work out, it didn't mean hers wouldn't. Besides Jesse and her had been together for so long and she knew that if she didn't marry him, there'd be more chance of them drifting apart.***
Chloe stood by the fridge, flicking through her phone contacts. When her eyes fell on Jesse's name, she tapped it.
"Hiya, Chloe? What's up?" He chirped.
"Okay. I am telling you, you need to ask her to marry you. Stand up, be a man and just do it," Chloe insisted.
There was a sigh on the other side. "You know that's not what she wants..." Jesse began.
"Life isn't all about what we want, Jesse. You two love each other and you're already growing old together and you haven't made any vows!" Chloe exclaimed. "Do you really think it'll work out forever?"
A silence lingered on the other side for a second, before he coughed.
"You know Beca. She can be... Difficult," Jesse whispered.
"Tell me about it. But if you want to keep her, you're the only one who can get down on one knee and tell her that. I mean, I'll even hold your hand while you're doing it if you want. The words just have to come out of your mouth and you have to mean them," Chloe explained.
"Yeah. I know you're right. Thanks, Chloe," Jesse said.
"Don't mention it. It's my duty towards my two best friends," Chloe smiled.
She ended the call, and Chloe felt satisfied with her actions. She knew she was doing the right thing. Grabbing the champaigne, she left the small kitchen and made her way down the hall, high-fiving their financial manager, Marcus on the way.
"Wrap party in the studio. Spread the word. See you there in five," Chloe grinned.
When she reached the studio again, she saw Beca sitting in the same place as before, although she looked a lot paler now. Chlo discarded this, with the intention of lifting the mood.
"Right, get ready to partayy! Let's crack this open," Chloe giggled.
"None for me, thanks. I'll stick with my coke bottle," Beca said calmly.
"What?" Chloe questioned. Beca never, never refused alcohol for anything. She'd drink Vodka for breakfast if you let her.
"I'm just not feeling too well, Chlo."
"And when has that ever stopped you?" Chloe asked. Then she spotted it sitting in the bin. "Oh my God..."
Beca's eyes followed Chloe's and she quickly stood up and picked up the pregancy test, trying to hide it from Chloe, even though it was evident that she knew.
"Don't say a word. Just shut up now. I'm going home," Beca stated, grabbing her bag and coat and rushing out of the room, leaving Chloe utterly bewildered.
She thought she'd heard a sob as her best friend ran out, and it saddened her because she knew there was nothing she could do for them now.***
Beca unlocked the door to the condo her and Jesse shared, wiping away the last of her tears. To her surprise, Jesse was seated on their dark, leather sofa, twiddling his thumbs in what she observed as deep thought.
"Jesse? You're early?" Beca said in confusion.
Jesse whirled around. "So are you," he questioned, raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah, I wasn't feeling too well. But why are you here?" She asked quickly, taking the attention off herself.
"There's something I have to discuss with you, Beca," he said seriously.
"Oh?" She responded, pretending to look interested in the mail that was lying on the table.
"Look at me. I don't know if you're going to like this in any way, and I admit it's not going to be flashy at all. But I have to ask you a question," Jesse began.
Why did she think she knew where this was leading to. Damn Chloe, that nosey bitch.
However, she didn't stop Jesse as he got a small blue box out from his pocket.
"So, I've had this ring for some time now. Look, hear me out before you refuse, because we havent had a proper conversation on this topic yet. I love you, Beca Mitchell," he smiled sadly. "I really do. And don't you think the best way we can confirm that is by getting married? I want us to have children and grow old together..." (Beca flinched)
"I wouldn't have anyone else by my side, and I want you to know I will be there with you, whatever happens. I know I'm sounding so corny but I mean every single word. So will you, Beca Mitchell, do me the honour of becoming my wife?"
He knelt down and opened the box, revealing the beautiful diamond-studded ring.
Beca stood still for a minute, just staring. She had a lot to consider, and not enough time to make a decision. She was having a baby by the looks of it, and wouldn't this be the best thing she could do for it? And besides, Jesse was the only one she wanted to be with. The decision seemed so simple, yet the fear of losing him constantly lingered in the back of her mind. But what would life be like if no risks were taken?
"Yes, I will, Jesse Swanson," she said suddenly.
Jesse gazed at her in shock for a second, before a grin crept onto his face. He stood up and hugged her, laughing in triumph.
"I did it! I somehow managed to persuade you to marry me with my first attempt," Jesse exclaimed, laughing in triumph. Little did he know that more good news was yet to come.
"It was inevitable, you weirdo. Now get off me and give me that ring," Beca demanded.
Jesse couldn't stop laughing. "You're going to be my wife," he muttered in disbelief.
"And you're going to be a dad," Beca blurted out without realising.
"What?"
Well, there was no going back now. "You know the part where you said you wanted children? It looks like we were one ahead of you there," Beca smiled.
"You're not...?"
"Yep. I'm pregnant, Jesse. We're going to be parents!" Beca squealed.
About an hour ago, that news had horrified her. Now, her view had changed after witnessing the look on her fiance's face. Chloe (that nosey bitch) may have actually done her some good. This seemed to unmistakably be the best day of her life, and the first of many brilliant ones to come.A/N
