The day of Cynthia Rose's wedding was fast approaching and before they knew it, Chloe and Beca were catching a flight to Maine with Emily. Dylan had given in to Chloe's begging, and agreed to come along too as her plus one.
"This time tomorrow, we're all gonna be reunited. Isn't that so exciting?" Chloe squealed, grabbing Emily's arm.
"Chloe, chill. I don't want you throwing up from exhilaration," Beca said from across the aisle. Because there were four of them, and only three seats per row, Beca was forced to sit away from the others, next to an extremely overweight man, which from Chloe's view looked extremely uncomfortable.
"You okay there, Bec?" Chloe asked with a smirk.
"I'm marvellous, thank you for asking. Just saying this now, I'm not sitting alone on the way back," she stated.
"Yeah, we'll see," Chloe chuckled, before turning to Dylan. "Are you alright? You've been really quiet."
She rested her head on his shoulder, and immediately realised how stiff he was.
"I'm not a fan of flying, to be perfectly honest," he admitted. His hands were firmly on his lap and he kept his eyes well away from the window.
"Why didn't you say? I could've sat by the window," Chloe told him.
"Looks like you've got something in common with the bride to be, Dylan. I had to hold her hand for half the flight I spent with her," Beca said.
Chloe turned back to Dylan. "Do you want me to hold your hand?" she asked him.
"That would be nice," he mumbled.
Chloe laughed, taking hold of her boyfriend's hand, letting her head reclaim its place on his shoulder. It took him a few minutes, but eventually he relaxed a little, letting himself lean into her.
"Aw, you guys are so sweet," Emily commented.***
Beca checked her messages when she turned on her phone at the airport, coming across something that might just have ruined her day.
She had four missed calls a voicemail from Jesse, which made her worried as soon as she'd seen his name on the screen.
She pressed on it and listened to the voicemail.
"Hey, Bec. I was an idiot and I forgot that you're probably on a plane right now, so don't worry about those missed calls. I was just calling to tell you that my plane's been delayed and I won't be able to get to Portland until tomorrow morning. I'm so sorry about that, Beca. I truly am. I was really looking forward to spending the night with you today, but I promise I will make it up to you. I love you, weirdo. See you soon," Jesse said through the phone.
Beca sighed, the realisation bending her mood and bringing tears to her eyes. Now she had to wait even longer to see her boyfriend.
"What's up?" Emily question in concern as they waited for Chloe and Dylan who had gone to the bathroom.
"Jesse's plane got delayed. I won't see him until tomorrow," she muttered in reply.
"Oh, Bec. If it makes you feel any better, I haven't seen Benji in three months and we're still okay. And another thing, I have chocolate," she smiled, getting out a bar of galaxy chocolate from her pocket. "Want some?"
Emily's smile mirrored onto Beca's lips.
"Man, you know how to cheer me up, Em," Beca grinned, taking a piece of chocolate. Honestly, she was still upset inside but the fact Emily was trying to cheer her up gave her the ability to smile.
Their journey to the hotel was short, and as soon as they arrived, Beca completely forgot about her sadness. This was because they were greeted in the lobby by none other than Stacey, Lilly and Aubrey.
"Oh my God!" Chloe screamed, flinging her arms around Aubrey as soon as she caught sight of the three of them. "I have missed you so much, you don't understand!"
"Woah, it hasn't even been that long," Aubrey said questioningly.
"Yeah, Chlo. Don't make it any more obvious that you're sick of me," Beca commented from behind her as she hugged Stacey.
"I was just really looking forward to seeing you lot, was all I meant. Although, Beca does stink. Dylan! Get your ass over here!" Chloe called to her boyfriend who was standing with all their luggage at the other side of the lobby. He jogged over with a friendly smile.
"Hi, I'm Dylan," he introduced himself, holding out his hand towards Aubrey.
"Hey, I'm Aubrey. You have not told me you had a guy, Chloe!" Aubrey exclaimed, taking Dylan's hand to shake.
"I thought I'd make it a surprise. I'll go into detail later, but I really need to lie down at the moment. You know what travelling does to me," Chloe said.
At that point Chloe and Dylan left to check into their room, but Beca decided to stay with Emily in the others, since she wasn't particularly in a hurry to get to her room since she'd be spending the night there alone.
"So where's Jesse? I thought he'd be here by now," Aubrey asked. Beca's mind flashed back to the argument she had had with Jesse several months before, about how he was going to meet Aubrey in LA. For some reason, that was probably completely stupid, Beca felt somewhat defensive, but she wouldn't dare let it show in any way because she knew Aubrey was the type to easily sniff things like that out.
"His plane got delayed. He'll get here tomorrow," Beca told her, keeping her tone friendly. Why was she so hostile? It was nothing, after all.
"How have you two been, anyway? It can't be easy living so far apart," Aubrey said.
None of your goddamn business. "Yeah I guess. But we're still really close. We speak on the phone all the time and I really can't wait to see him tomorrow," Beca said truthfully.
"Good. I'm happy to hear that. You're a really strong couple," Aubrey smiled.
"Yeah, we are," Beca emphasized. "I have to go check in, but I'll see you around okay?"
They said goodbye and Beca went to reception to get the keys to her room. Even though Beca and Aubrey had gotten over their differences a long time, she couldn't say they were very close friends. She'd even go as far as to say that their relationship was awkward.
The rest of the day flew by fairly quickly. By the end all the Bellas had arrived, Flo being the last. She greeted them with a loud "I'm still alive, everybody!" which made half the room laugh and the other half give dodgy looks. Beca tucked into bed that, and despite her sadness, realised that was the last night she would be lying without Jesse. It was only a matter of hours until she saw him, and the quicker she fell asleep, the quicker she would be able to kiss his lips and cuddle him to infinity.
And so it happened. When it was still dark, she woke up to the creak of the door and although she couldn't see his face, she knew it was him.
"Jesse?"
"No, this is bedroom police."
"Please never say that ever again," Beca laughed, before getting out of bed and clumsily running into Jesse's arms. She was still sleepy, but she didn't care. Leaning on him was more comfortable than the bed, and she could have stayed there forever.
"I've missed you, you big idiot. I hate that plane," she mumbled into his shoulder.
"Me too, Bec. I've been thinking about your face all day and I can't even see it," he chuckled.
Beca let go for a horrible second while she turned on the lamp, before rushing back to him. She looked up at his now visible face and let him stroke hers.
"I love you so much, Beca Mitchell," he whispered, taking her chin and leaning in to kiss her.
She lay a finger on his lips. "I love you more."
Then she allowed their lips to meet for the first time in what felt like forever.A/N
Penultimate chapter! Next one is the last. (If you don't count the epilogue)
I'm considering a sequel but I'm not completely sure yet. I've started another (Whouffle) fanfic so if a sequel is confirmed, it won't be until after that. There'll be more info on that later. In the mean time, thank you for reading this so far and I hope you enjoy the ending that is to come. Votes and comments, as always, are gratefully accepted :)
