Damage Control

My fingers strum along a paper coffee cup while I wait for Ryan and Austin to finish with the Captain. It took about forty-five minutes to give my entire statement to the police, who were working with the F.B.I on this one and neither Ryan nor Austin was thrilled with my involvement in any of it. Although, they were impressed that I had almost managed to escape on my own.

Austin and Ryan went completely stiff when I described my injuries and I think Ryan held his breath when the Captain asked if I needed to be taken to the hospital for a rape kit. They both visibly relaxed in their seat when I shook my head no and told them the worst of it was my sliced-up hands from the glass.

With the exception of being scared witless today at the schoolhouse, I actually enjoyed being undercover and helping bust the Carmichaels.

According to Captain Leonard, the wedding didn't happen and no one can currently get a hold of Jackson or his parents. They took off in the limo that was supposed to be for the grand exit and no one has heard from them since. They are probably trying to focus on damage control. The F.B.I sent agents to surround their property and are hoping to get a statement from them as soon as possible.

Whitney was spotted running and bawling after the limo which, I am curious if the tears were for Jackson or his family's millions. She eventfully flung herself into the middle of the street to wallow against the gravel and her father had to come and pull her to safety.

Kennedy was arrested about five minutes after my phone call to Jackson. Annabeth and Gus said it was the most eventful wedding they had ever been to. Seconds after the processional music was cued, the groom never came down the aisle and then F.B.I agents came bursting in from all directions, so Kennedy had no escape. Even though the task force was small, there were still enough agents to cover both the school house and wedding venue, so Kennedy's plan to thin out resources failed.

Unfortunately, Simon managed to escape from the school house so the police are combing the woods surrounding the property now.

I watch through the window as Ryan now talks to the captain animatedly with his hands. Something has him completely worked up. Finally, Austin stands and pulls Ryan out of the office while the Captain watches them sternly. The door flies open and they both come barreling out. I pop up off the hard bench I've been perched on and march over to the boys.

"What's going on?" I ask and Austin glances to Ryan cautiously. Whatever is going on can't be good.

"Simon was never found," Austin says as Ryan stuffs his hands in his jacket pockets.

"Oh no, so what does that mean?" I ask the both of them and Ryan shakes his head in frustration.

"The Captain thinks you still may be a target to use as leverage. That Simon may come after you since his father was busted. Simon has a pretty long rap sheet and you were not his first kidnapping," Austin tells me, going a slight shade of white. He swallows hard but Ryan still has nothing to offer to the conversation.

"Okay, so now what? What do we do?" I ask, beginning to panic.

"The Captain has thought of a possible solution. You need to stay in Hollis because the F.B.I needs you as a witness in their case, but Simon doesn't know that. The Captain thinks we should play it like you left town, but actually keep you right where we can see you."

"That doesn't sound so horrible? So Ryan, why do you look like you want to punch that wall?" I ask and Ryan finally looks to me.

"The Captain is going to contact a possible location to place you at for a bit," Ryan says and I glance to him to continue, "We need a location that Simon would never guess you were at, with high security and with people we know will cooperate."
