I was dreaming, but it felt real.
Like everything around me was genuine. Even though I knew it wasn't. It was all a dream. An illusion, a delusion. Despite my knowing this, it felt so, so real.
I was in a dark room, and I couldn't move. Even if I attempted to budge, it was like I was stuck in place like a doll of some sort. Just stuck, unmoving. Stationary in darkness.
Only my eyes could seem to move, so I took the advantage of it and looked down. I couldn't see anything. Not even myself.
Suddenly a dim light appeared in the distance. So far, yet so near. Like I could touch it. But I couldn't move.
It started to get brighter and brighter, as if coming closer. But it couldn't be. I was alone. I felt no presence.
Before me appeared the shape of a body, a shape of a male. He seemed to be smiling, laughing, but only his mouth was visible on his glowing body. It moved effortlessly and enviously, easily and perfectly as he chuckled. What was there to laugh about?
His light didn't seem to reach as far as to lighten my clothes. So as I glanced down once again, all was dark. And as I looked up again, all was bright.
He emitted such a beautiful ray of light. He was like the sun: bold and bright. But I couldn't go near. I wasn't allowed to. For if you go too close to the sun, it ought to burn you.
He stopped moving suddenly and his perfect and effortless grin quickly dropped, like all expression had fell from his glowing face. There was something wrong.
A bright arm extended to me, yet it couldn't touch me. He was too far. He was too distant.
There was a scream. A loud, excruciatingly painful scream. And then the glowing light disappeared.
All went black.[_][_][_]
'Do you really care about me?' A whining voice asked. 'Robin, are you even listening?'
I shrugged. 'If you're asking if in the hypothetical situation that you would be about to be hit by a car, and whether or not I would save you, the answer is yes.'
'If you want to be in a relationship you have to take it seriously!' My girlfriend, Lily, exclaimed.
'I do take it seriously,' I raised a brow, 'but at the end of the day, we're not actually going to be spending the rest of our lives together, right? High schoolers make mistakes. And most of them are long term relationships.'
'Are you saying I am a mistake?' She gasped. 'Am I just for your entertainment? To hang out with because you're bored?'
'No, I'm not saying anything like it.' I ran a hand through my black hair with a sigh. 'I'm saying that there's a definite chance we won't be spending the rest of our lives together.'
'Are you cheating on me?' She questioned.
'No, I'm not,' I said. 'What do you even want, Lily?'
'I want to hug! And kiss! And be a cute couple!' She yelled. 'I don't want you to be slouching in your room dressed in black and not answering any of my texts!'
'Your texts are just "hey babe" and then a couple of x's,' I raised my eyes brows. 'I don't see how I can reply to that.'
'Maybe ask how my day is going!'
'But I see you at school,' I sighed, 'I'm with you most of the day. There's no point in asking how your day is going.'
'I want to have cute texts that I can show to my friends!' She frowned. 'Not just endless texts of me asking you to text me back!'
'I don't want a girlfriend that will show me off to her friends like an award,' I shrugged.
'And I don't want a boyfriend that won't understand that I want to be cared for!' Lily scowled. 'That's it! We're over!'
'Sure,' I turned. 'See you around.'
'Wait, Robin! How could you be so thick as to be so cool with breaking up with me?' She demanded. 'I'm the prettiest girl in school!'
I turned back to her. 'Is being pretty a reason to be clingy?'
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but I cut her off.
'See you around,' I waved and turned. I walked away.[_][_][_]
'I heard that there's going to be a cute new boy coming to your school,' my mother chuckled as she chopped carrots. I sat myself down onto a bar stool and cleared my fringe out of my face. 'Linda next door told me. He's her nephew apparently.'
I raised a brow. 'Why are you telling me this?'
'Well, I was hoping the two of you could become friends,' she grinned. 'He's only a couple months older than you. Turning eighteen in July.'
'I don't need to become anyone's friend,' I said. 'Also, I broke up with Lily today.'
'Oh, but she was such a nice girl!' My mother gasped. 'What happened?'
'Same as usual,' I shrugged. 'They always expect me to cling onto them and kiss them and invite them over.'
'To be fair, Hun, you've never invited over one of your girlfriends,' she pursed her lips and slid the carrots into a pot. 'That's quite a turnoff. And that messy hair. That's a turnoff too.' She released a laugh at my bored expression.
'So what's this new guy like?' I asked.
'Well, Linda said that he was a very handsome boy,' she pat her hands together and slid the pot to the side, 'and very intelligent, too. He was the top of his class in his old school. So...' She looked up. 'Basically, the opposite of you.'
I said nothing but sighed at her foolish humour.
'Oh come now, you know I'm kidding,' she chuckled. 'You're handsome and smart, too. But you're in need of a haircut.'
'Quit it with my hair,' I raised a brow. 'What does he look like?'
'He has very light blond hair, if I remember from what Linda told me,' she said. 'And his eyes are a very pale blue. And his skin is light.'
'He sounds boring,' I turned my head.
'You're boring,' she pouted.
I shrugged and trailed my dark green optics over her face. 'Whatever.'
'Ahp, now what did I say about using that word?'
'I'm almost eighteen, mom. I can do what I want,' I frowned.
'And what do you want to do?' She asked.
I slipped off the bar stool. 'I haven't figured that out yet.' I walked away to go up the stairs.
'Oh, and we're picking him up on the way to school tomorrow!'
'Whatever!'~~
