'You didn't hang out with him today?' My mother asked disappointedly as she sipped at her coffee. 'Why not?'
I shrugged.
'Robin, why didn't you hang out with him?'
'He's annoying,' I said truthfully. 'And besides, he was surrounded by people all day. Even the if I wanted to hang out with him I wouldn't have been able to.'
'You just haven't known him long enough,' she sighed. 'I can give you his phone number, if you want?'
'Why would you have it in the first place?' I questioned.
'Just in case you wanted it,' she smiled. 'So is that a yes?'
'Sure,' I nodded. 'I'll go call him now. See if he's home.'
She passed me a strip of paper with a number on it and I fled upstairs. Of course, I wasn't actually going to call him. I just wanted to escape the conversation.
So instead of walking into my room and giving the number a call, I tossed it into the trash and locked myself in the bathroom to relax.

[_][_][_]
'Remember to hand it in by Monday,' the math teacher concluded, 'any not done will be an instant detention. Class dismissed.'
The class all stood and sounds and voices filled the room. I gathered my books and turned to walk out the door when a familiar figure stepped in front of me.
I sighed. 'What do you want?'
Ellis smiled. 'Your mother said that you called me yesterday. I didn't seem to get any calls.'
'When I tried it didn't work,' I lied.
'Oh, no!' He gasped. He took out a small notebook and set it on a desk. 'It must have been wrong. I'll write the correct one down for you.'
I shook my head. 'It's fine.'
'Are you sure?' He asked, turning to me. 'It's really no prob-'
'I don't want to be your friend,' I said bluntly. 'I don't need your company. So stop wasting your time with me and go and give numbers to some other guys. Or get a girlfriend. I don't care. Just go away.'
'You want to be left alone?' His shoulders dropped. 'You can't be happy if there's no one to be friends with.'
'Friendship is a load of bullshit,' I frowned. 'So go away.'
'Haven't you ever had a friend?' He raised his eyebrows. 'Or at least someone like a friend?'
'No,' I turned to the side. 'Stop pushing me into your foolish friend bullshit and leave me alone.'
'If that's what you want,' he smiled, despite my cruel words, 'then I'll do what you say. I didn't mean to push you.'
'Whatever,' I shrugged.
'But just in case something happens, or you change your mind,' he ripped a page out of the notebook and slipped it into my hand. 'I'll leave this with you.'
I crumpled the paper in my hand and watched the blond leave. My phone started ringing.
I answered and dragged myself out of the classroom to walk to a quiet place. 'What?'
'I feel like I'm gonna throw up,' said a young, familiar voice. 'Is there any way you can take me home?'
'Why do you feel like you're going to throw up?' I asked.
'Because Nancy who sits next to me looked up horse porn on her computer and I looked at it and now I feel sick,' he said.
'How old is Nancy?' I sighed.
'Eight,' he sniffed.
'And where are you now?' I raised a brow.
'Storage cupboard in the music room because I ran away because I felt sick,' he reasoned. 'Please take me home.'
'I'm in school, Logan,' I rubbed my face.
'Skip school.'
'I can't,' I told my little brother. 'Just go to the bathroom and wait it out. You'll be fine in ten minutes.'
'I can't move.'
'Lo, you're exaggerating,' I sighed.
'No, but I'm telling the truth!' He exclaimed over the line. 'I really can't be stuffed to move!'
'Stop being a lazy piece of shit and drag your ass over to the bathroom,' I ordered.
I heard a faint 'tch'.
'Logan.'
'Alright, alright!' He sighed. 'I'm going!'
'I'll talk to you after school,' I raised a brow.
'Yeah, okay,' he said. 'Bye.'
He hung up and I released a long breath of air. Why was an eight year old looking up horse porn?

[_][_][_]

I stepped into my home with a sigh before shutting the door. I smelled cookies. 'Mom? Are you baking or something?'
'Oh, yes! I am!' She called. I walked into the kitchen with a raised brow to see she was sliding a batch of cookies out of the oven. She placed them onto a cooling rack. 'White chocolate chip! I'm making them for Rachel.'
'Who's Rachel?'I frowned.
'Oh, that's right!' She exclaimed with a gasp. 'I haven't told you her name before. She's Ellis' mother.' I nodded. 'Speaking of which, did you speak to Ellis today?'
'Yeah. I told him to fuck off.'
'What did he do wrong?' She stuck out her tongue playfully.
'He's annoying. He smiles too much. He's too cheery. It's gross,' I picked up a cookie from the rack and stuck it in my mouth, pulling it away quickly as soon as it touched my tongue. 'Hot.'
'He is pretty hot,' she chuckled.
'I meant the cookie.'
'Oh, right. That too.'
'Don't call a teenager hot,' I set myself down onto a bar stool and placed my chin on the back of my hand. 'It's weird.'
'Can I call a teenager hot?' Logan called from the living room.
'You're nine,' I turned to him.
He shrugged. 'What if they're thirteen?'
'Don't be a smartass,' I frowned.
'Stop fighting,' my mother hushed us. 'Anyway, Robin. I've organised to go over to go over to Rachel's house on the weekend. You're coming with.'
'I have homework due Monday,' I said. 'I don't want to go over there anyway.'
'That rhymed,' my mother grinned, before clearing her throat. 'You are coming.'
'No, I'm not.' I stood, picking up the cookie from before and placing it my mouth.
'You don't get a choice,' she patted her apron.
'I hate him,' I said.
'I can't leave you alone with Logan.'
'Yet you can leave him alone by himself?'
'It's less dangerous than leaving him alone with you.'
'Great I have your trust,' I frowned.
'Well, no matter what you say, you are coming,' she smiled. 'And that's the end of it.'

Not fond of this chapter, but oh well. I didn't want to introduce Robin's little brother in the first couple chapters because it would go too quickly, so... Yeah. Have a lovely day.
