My glory days
Hotaru's P.O.V:
I remembered the cold morning and the day I first started school in Hokkaido Elementary. It was probably the tenth time we had to move cities, and the first time that I came face to face with Narumi. My parents tried to avoid them as much as they could but nothing could be done in the end.
I remember when I first met Sakura Mikan.
"YOU'RE LATE AGAIN SAKURA-SAN! GO WAIT OUTSIDE!" Ms. Satsuki yelled that very morning after I introduced myself. This was the tenth time that I had to transfer schools too. Never had I made a single friend before and that didn't really bother me. It was a waste of time and effort.
"Sorry~!" The pig-tailed girl rubbed her neck nervously. She was probably already used to being late to class everyday. I could tell that she wasn't a responsible student at all. "Jicchan didn't wake me in time! Plus I was up all night playing video games." She mumbled the last part and then smiled innocently.
"Oh...I'm sorry! DETENTION" she said with sarcasm. I couldn't help but smile a little. The girl sure did know how to amuse someone. I was amused, and that is quite a surprise.
"AW! Not again!" She argued and stomped out of the classroom angrily like a 4 year old.
From then one I observed her and she never failed to amuse me whatsoever. She always smiled and laughed, and optimistic. In fact she was never, and I mean NEVER sad in anyway. Sure... there were times when she cried but that was because she fell or got hit in the face by something.
Sakura Mikan was strong and independent.
I admired her and I wished that I could be like her.
She was also very popular with both the boys and girls in our school. They loved her smile almost as much as I did. Everyone loved her... almost as much as I did.
"A pair of pretty girls are sure to win." Those were the first words I spoke to her. Her reaction was one that would be paid highly of. From then on she came along with me to competitions and we would most definitely win them. I was in it for the money and she was in it for the fun. A win-win for the both of us you could say.
She was truly a beautiful person that one could not help but want to be near her.
All of that ended just as quickly...
"We are sad to announce that Hokkaido School will be shutting down." Ms. Satsuki said to us one day. Mikan and I were in the first grade. We still had a lot to go for school but the city couldn't afford the funds. Mikan wasn't exactly what you would call happy.
In fact she was furious.
Thinking back about it... I thought it was kind of funny how she would bring her karate outfit to school and build her own strike. No one joined her and that made it even more amusing. At times I would join her but only when I was paid. Eventually no one listened to her but me and that made everyday gloomy. She was gloomy and so was I. She was sad and so that made me sad.
That's how much she affect people.
She was the sunlight in the eerie darkness.
"Mom... if I were to go to the academy... would they pay you and dad?" I decided to confront my parents about the situation. We only had one month to save the school from shutting down. Mikan was freaking out and I... I hate to say it but... I was going to miss that lame excuse for a school.
"What's this about sweety?" She was shocked that I even brought up the 'academy'.
"My school is at risk of shutting down permanently Mom... Maybe if I go to the academy... they can pay for the funds and Mikan won't have to go to another school." I blurted out. My mom still had that look on her face but now it was welcomed by tears that strolled down her rosy cheeks. Her black hair was put up in a high ponytail and now it seemed to shine as she cried out quietly. She finally agreed and called the academy. I was to leave in the next two weeks. It left me plenty of time to build that Messenger turtle that had been on my mind.
Each day after that, I never dared to mention a word to Mikan. If she heard, I'm sure that she'd freak out and get mad at me. But I'm also scared that if she found out... she'd cry and I hated it when she cried. It made her 10 times uglier.
Friday came and that was the day I had to leave Hokkaido forever. I didn't know what to think, but one thing was for sure... my life was never going to be the same again and I was sacrificing all that just for a lame excuse for a school. No it wasn't for school... it was for Mikan. It was because I hated seeing her sad face, it made her 10 times uglier.
"HOTARU!" She came and it looks like she's running a marathon. It made me smile for the last time. "HOW COULD YOU?! TRAITOR!!!! I WONT FORGIVE YOU FOR AS LONG AS I LIVE, BAKA!"
There was no one like Sakura Mikan, that's for sure.
We departed and I ended up leaving an angry Mikan with my snapping turtle, well the messenger turtle that is. It was for the best because an angry Mikan was better than a sad Mikan. A frown did not suit the face of Sakura Mikan.

I blinked but the tears continued to fall down rapidly. I remembered everything and everyone.
"Luna..." my mouth hissed on it's own. "What's going on?!" I demanded harshly. Now that I remembered I still didn't know what was going on in the present day. My entire mind was gone for what seems like three months. Oh and I didn't feel at all moody for explanations, but right at the moment... I cannot afford to be picky.
"Imai-!" She took a deep breath. "Koro Sensei has Mikan and he's planning on erasing her identity!" She rushed with no spaces but I managed to comprehend most of it.
"Why should I trust you?" I narrowed my eye's at her accusingly.
"I just gave you back your memories. Is that not enough for you?" She whined impatienly. "I'm on your side anyway! One of E.S.P's clones is taking over and holding Kuonji hostage. I agreed to serve him because I'm afraid that he'll hurt him. Kuonji is under a coma so there's nothing he can do!" Her face turned a considerable amount of colors, varying from crimson to indigo violet. I had to believe her because no one, and I mean NO ONE is this good at acting...
"Do you know where she's being held prisoner?!" I grabbed her hand out to the parking lot. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that we were still on school campus and what we were doing was considered ditching but who cared at the moment? No-one. "Lead me to her!!!"
"OKAY-FOLLOW-ME!" She rushed the words again and I held back a laugh. Her anxiousness didn't amuse me. It was the thought that I'd get to see Mikan again that made me laugh.
"Wait a minute..." she stopped in her tracks and I turned to face her. Her hair stuck to her face and she was panting now. "I think some people from Alice Academy may be able to help us out a little...."
