Hunter's wolf ^^

Fire. Flames. Smoke. Ash. Darknesss. Screams. I. Can't. Breathe. But I have to run. I promised her. Fire. Flames. Smoke. Ash. Darkness. Screams. I. Can't. Breathe. Fire flames smoke ash darkness screams. I. Can't. Breathe. Fireflamessmokeashdarknessscreams-- Gunshot. Thud. One last breath. Death. I scream.

I sit up up in bed, breathing heavily. Just a dream, just a dream, just a dream. I chant to myself. My body is slick with sweat, the once-crisp white sheets tangled up around my legs. I feel trapped. I have to get out. I can still smell the smoke, still see the flicker of the flames, still hear the gunshot ringing through her house. I need to get out, into the cool, open air outside. I check the clock. 2:02am. I'd only been sleeping about 2 hours. I'd be exhausted for my first day of school today but I need to get out.

I need to run.

I hop out of bed and tiptoe to my suitcase. A quick glance at Kaylee tells me she is still fast asleep. She really does sleep like a rock. But for a trim girl, she has the nasal canals of an overweight trucker. Her snores ring loud through the room, and I'm surprised I didn't wake up.

My nightmare kept me busy.

I sigh, slip into some running leggings and a sports bra and walk to the window. I open it quietly, huffing a sigh of relief when it glides smoothly. I was on the 3rd floor.

I'd jumped from higher.

I had always been very talented at scaling trees, jumping out of windows, or anything physical really.

I guess I knew why now. I scanned the grounds I could see from here, as well as the treeline. I felt like I was forgetting to check something, but whatever, no-one was going to be up at- I checked my watch- 2:06 in the morning, at a boarding school. I chuckled to myself, and leapt.

As I fell, I watched the dark night sky above me. You could see so many stars here. In London, you were lucky if you could see two or three. The light pollution and all the smog from cars and buses and trains blocked them out.

I looked to the ground and saw I was a few metres from impact. I timed my tuck and roll perfectly, just as I hit the grass beneath my window, and bounced to my feet straight away, starting to sprint as fast as I could towards the forest. This was a big, open space, I was very exposed here, and if anyone were to look out their window now, they would see me running across the grounds.

I was at least 150 metres from the trees, but with my superspeed, it only took me about thirteen seconds to get there. Not my best time, but right now I didn't care. I reached the forest, and burst into it, light on my feet and fast as a cheetah. I zipped between trees, and leaped over logs and streams, enjoying the feeling of the wind on my face, blowing my hair back from my eyes. I felt free, and for a few hours, me and my wolf were closer than we ever had been before.

When I noticed it start to become light I headed back towards the dorms, sprinting and pushing myself to go as fast as I could. I sped across the grass, laughing in delight, and felt my wolf howl with pure joy. It felt incredible. If I wasn't careful, this would become a nightly thing. As I ran, I checked my watch and gawked at the time. 7:16!! Classes started in 44 minutes, and I need to shower, get dressed, (and I had been hoping to unpack this morning) find the food hall, get breakfast, collect my schedule from the headmaster and find my way to my first class.

Sh*t! I scaled the wall to our window, using the ivy to help me climb up. I was in such a hurry that when I got to the windowframe, I tumbled through with the grace of an elephant, and groaned as my head hit the floor. I cursed, scrambling to my feet, meeting the hazel-grey eyes of my roomate. She snorted.
