The next day Lucy walked to Fairy Tail with an idea of how she could show both Laxus and Arvis that neither had betrayed the other. She walked inside and and went immediately to find Mira.
She found Mira cleaning a window on the second floor. "Mira!" Lucy greeted excitedly.
"Oh hi Lucy. How are you?"
"I'm good. But I've had an idea. I know how we can prove to Laxus and Arvis that they didn't betray each other."
"How?" Mira asked.
"Warren!" Lucy said proudly.
"Huh?"
"Warren can read minds and he can tell if they're lying."
"That's a great idea Lucy! You go get Arvis. I'll find Warren."
Mira ran off leaving Lucy to find Arvis.
Lucy began slowly looking through the upstairs. She checked the balcony where she and Erza had found her yesterday but there was nothing out there except some chairs and...where those feet?! Lucy ran to the end of the balcony and looked down. Hanging off the end of the balcony was Arvis. Her feet were just wrapped around the legs holding up the railing.
"ARVIS!" Lucy cried.
Arvis looked up with ease.
Lucy wondered how she could look so calm hanging from the second story. Her green hair hung and flew in the wind. She wore tight shorts and a gold t-shirt. And the gold collar Master Fuji had given her was around her neck.
"What?" she asked in a calm voice.
"Ugh I wanted to show you something."
"What is it?"
"Its downstairs."
"That didn't answer my question" she said coldly.
"Aww, come on Arvis. It's supposed to be a surprise."
Arvis sighed, rolling her eyes. She then leaned forward grabbing onto the rail and flipped her body up and landed on her feet on the balcony next to Lucy.
"This better not be a waste of my time."
Arvis followed the blonde girl downstairs where she saw nothing new or extraordinary. "What is it you felt the need to show me?"
Lucy turned to her and scratched the back of her head. "Well honestly, I just wanted to get you down here because I thought of a way to show you and Laxus that you didn't betray each other."
Arvis growled and looked away. "Please" she scoffed. "Don't let that hot head convince you he's not guilty."
"Watch who you're calling a hot head" Laxus snarled coming over.
"I know what you did to me Laxus! I still have the scars from the Vulcans!"
"I never wrote you a damn letter" Laxus defended.
"Neither did I!"
"They're both telling the truth" said a new voice. Warren followed by Mira stepped into their little fight.
"What are you talking about?" Arvis asked.
"Mira asked me to use my telepathic magic and see who was lying. I've been reading your minds while you argued. Both of you are telling the truth."
Arvis looked confused at the new mage. "That can't be" she said.
"It is Arvis" Lucy said with a serious expression. "Mira and I got both yours and Laxus' version of the story we knew something was up. You both received letters you said you never wrote and then ended up in a terrible situation. And now knowing both are telling the truth its clear that someone wanted to tear you both apart. You were set up. Someone drove you apart for whatever reason" Lucy explained.
Arvis looked at Laxus with the most emotion she'd yet to show. Her gold eyes looked into his grey searching and sad. "You really didn't send me a letter?"
"No" Laxus said calmly. It was the most calm hes been since seeing her. "And you didn't dump me for some asshole?"
She shook her head. "No. I never wanted anyone but you."
They stared at each other. Both trying to come to grips with the fact that their hatred for each other had been misplaced for so long.
The silence was disrupted by a gasp for air. Laxus looked up and saw Arvis shaking. Her head was down, her soft hair covering her eyes. "I...I hated you for so long" she said in an awful voice.
Laxus went closer to her. He reached to touch her but she flinched back a step. "Don't" she cried. She finally lifted her head and Laxus saw tears dripping from her eyes. Laxus gasped. Never in all of knowing her had he seen her look so fragile.
"Arvis" he whispered.
"No!" Then in a flash she was gone.
It had been a couple weeks since the revelation had been made. Arvis had made herself scarce, not joining the guild in their festivities much. She was often found on the balcony just staring.
Lucy was talking with Levy.
"Have you talked to Arvis since then?" Levy asked.
"No" Lucy said sadly. "She hardly even comes down. She just stands on the balcony staring off."
"She seems so conflicted. I can't imagine what shes going through. To think for so long that someone you loved betrayed you."
"I don't know what I was thinking would happen after showing them but it wasn't this" Lucy said. "I don't why I thought they'd immediately embrace each other."
"You wanted to help them and you did Lucy. Now its up to them to rebuild the bond." Levy pat the blonde on the back comforting her.
"Arvis!" Lucy and Levy looked over. Master Makarov followed by Laxus stood in the middle of the guild.
A flash of light and then Arvis stood before them with cold eyes. "In light of the revelation, I've decided to make you and Laxus a new team.
Arvis gasped. "But Makarov"
"I've decided this already. And I will not change my mind."
Arvis nodded. "Yes Makarov."
"I've got a job already lined up for you."
Master Makarov left leaving the newly formed team to stare at each other.
"I suppose we should leave soon" Laxus said.
Arvis nodded. "I'll meet you in front of the guild in half an hour."
Arvis walked back down later with a small bag packed.
Lucy went over to her. "Good luck on your mission Arvis."
Arvis nodded. "Thank you." She began to walk again. But then she stopped. "And also, thanks for helping me and Laxus."
Lucy was taken back for a minute. "Oh no problem."
Arvis went to the front of the guild where she saw her new partner waiting for her.
"That was longer than thirty minutes" Laxus grumbled.
"Shut it princess" Arvis growled walking past him.
Laxus sighed. "This is gonna be a long trip."
But as much as Laxus feared it was gonna be difficult or annoying he was still slightly excited. He'd asked his grandfather to make them a team. He knew Arvis wouldn't agree if he just asked. But Laxus had to make things better between them. Arvis had closed herself off because of what happened and he was determined to bring back the sweet girl he used to know.
