The past few days in Viktor's commune had been peaceful.
Almost suspiciously so.
There had been no invading armies marching along the roads. No corrupted miracles spreading through the settlement. No celestial spider-gods appearing to tear reality apart because they had apparently grown bored with ordinary violence.
People simply woke up, worked, ate, rested, and repeated the process the next day.
Viktor could not have been more satisfied with that outcome.
After Adriel relocated the commune, its people adapted to their new surroundings remarkably well. The settlement was no longer buried within the lowest depths of Zaun, surrounded by metal, stone, toxic air, and the constant reminder that Piltover existed comfortably above them.
Here, there was open land.
Fresh air.
Trees.
Enough space for the commune to expand without forcing another family into every narrow corner.
The change had done wonders for everyone.
Gardens had begun spreading across the hillsides. New homes appeared almost daily, built from sturdy timber and materials Adriel provided whenever the workers ran short. Water channels carried clean water through the settlement, while unfamiliar machines handled tasks that once required hours of exhausting labor.
At this point, calling the place a commune no longer felt entirely accurate.
It was becoming a small town.
Every day brought something new.
A more efficient irrigation system.
Improved medical equipment.
Heating devices that did not choke the air with smoke.
Lights that remained active without needing the Hexgates, Piltover's power network, or anything else the people here understood.
Some of those advancements came directly from Adriel. Others came from his companions, who possessed knowledge from worlds Viktor had never imagined could exist.
Their presence had accelerated the commune's development by years.
Perhaps decades.
Viktor was grateful for it.
He was also grateful that Adriel had made no attempt to replace him.
The Guardian easily could have.
Adriel possessed the power to construct entire buildings in minutes, provide nearly unlimited resources, cure illnesses Viktor had spent years trying to understand, and solve problems before most people even realized those problems existed.
If Adriel wished to take control of the commune, there was little Viktor could have done to stop him.
Instead, Adriel continued directing people toward Viktor whenever they approached him with decisions concerning the settlement.
He offered assistance.
He offered advice.
But he never attempted to make Viktor irrelevant.
