The crater held two figures and not much else.

One burned. Rage, breath, skin—everything on Ace ran hot, like the world had dared him to arrive tired and he had accepted with his teeth bared. Across from him, wearing his friend's face like a prize mask, stood the other. Peter Parker's posture. Peter Parker's heartbeat. Not Peter. AM laughed through him—bright, precise, pleased with the theft.

Ace moved.

Speed Force tightened around muscle and bone; cosmic flame rode inside the step like a second pulse. He crossed the distance in less than a thought and put a hammer-fist where a skull should have been. Spider-Sense said no. Speed said already. The body tilted; the fist met earth and turned a city block of rubble into a smoking bowl. Stone vitrified. Air bucked.

Web-line—thwip. It bit Ace's forearm and yanked. The pull arrived with a shockwave knuckle—a punch that didn't bother with contact. It broke against Ace's face like a bell, rocked his vision, shoved his stance half a shoe-width off center. The follow-up back kick landed square in his chest and launched him into the treeline.

He buried an arm to the elbow to stop, dirt turning to glass around his wrist from sheer heat. The forest here had learned to be red; it hissed. Speed pricked the back of his neck—closing. The symbiote's arm lanced in, a black spear. He caught it. Flame crawled from his grip and found nothing soft to eat. Fire meant nothing to this version now—fireproofed by the suit that caged it.

Fine. He pulled instead.

The body came. Ace turned with it and spun, hips first—heel a clean arc—and caught the base of Peter's skull. The impact dug a new bite out of the earth.

"Out of his body," he snarled. "Now."

I'M ONLY BORROWING, the thing cooed, oddly gentle. I HAVEN'T FINISHED.

Ace gathered light above his crown, a solar flare tightening to a punishable rule. The knee shot back. Balance broke for a breath. Symbiote cords found his other ankle and slammed him like a metronome—left, right, left—until he turned a breath into a bomb and hurled a compact sun outward. The blast hurled the Spider through trees and stone and left him framed on a cliff.

Ace didn't let the echo end. He cut the cliff in half with one pass of flame, stone sagging like wax. Empty—no, not empty. Future Sight whispered; his body pivoted a heartbeat before the heel slammed; the kick shaved past, close enough to sting. Ace tore open a halo-port, stepped through his own light, and came out with a flying knee to the face. He landed behind, caught an arm, turned a circle, and threw—hard—into the mountain.
