Breathing and Not Breathing

Surfacing from the water, shifted back already, my clothes stuck to my skin and my hair stuck to my face. The hear of the flames was the source of my warmth but the source of my misery. My home. Treading to the side of the pool mason jumped out and helped me out. "We meet again like this," he sadly said with a smile. Hugging me close he told me he'll be right back. "I'm going for Darren. Contact Jay. Stay on the phone with him the whole time until I get back. He's injured I can smell it. It won't be long and he's not far," he stated kissing my head. I nodded pulling out the only thing saved from the fire. My phone.
Calling up Jay he answered first ring. "What," he said. He always answers quickly. Wait why is he up? "Come home now," I stated sobbing. "What happened?? Are you okay??! Why are you crying??!!" He hurried as I heard a door shut in the distance. "Darren came, he burned down the house. I escaped with mason and he's somewhere killing him so no I'm not okay!" I yelled tears staining my eyes. And just like that he was here.
He hugged me. Looking at our house we both cried. Jay held me tight as we watched our house burn to the ground. "Hey, it'll be fine," he said. "Wait why was mason with you?!" He asked. Wrong time as usual. "He stayed with me since I was alone," I stated hoping he would smell our mixed scent. "Ok," is all he said.

A few minutes later, mason showed up with a bleeding scratch on his arm. Running to him my eyes asked the question I've been yearning about. He nodded. I nodded back and took him in my arms as he sighed looking at my house. Jay was now on the phone with mom and dad and we are now heading to masons. We are staying there. Full of sadness and misery I still felt safe now he was dead. We walked.
