Chapter 20 - Daddy
Kensi's pov
"Daddy"
I don't understand.
"Babygirl, is that you?"
He's dead.
"How is this possible?", I whispered in anguish.
"Daddy", I cried once more, as I launched myself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably. I've never felt as much pain as I did in this moment. To be hugging my father once again. But he's been dead for 15 years. I don't understand. He's dead.
"We got him guys, you can come out now", I heard Callen's voice through my ear, immediately causing me to let out another unintentional sob as I clung onto my father with everything I had.
"Kens, are you crying? What's happened?", Sam replied, instantly picking up on the soft sniffling sounds that I was making. Unable to respond, Deeks replied.
"Uhh guys, I think you're going to want to see this for yourselves"
I stayed in my father's embrace, utterly unable to process any information at that point, until about 20 seconds later when Callen and Sam appeared in the doorway. Both of their faces held extremely confused expressions as all they could see was me sobbing into the arms of a stranger . The saddest part is that they wouldn't be wrong; I don't know him anymore. So many questions were circling around my brain, I feel like I'm drowning.
"Kens? You wanna tell us what's going on?", questioned Callen. When I didn't respond he asked again.
"Kensi?", he questioned, firmer this time. I sniffed and slowly pulled away from the man I used to call dad.
"Umm, Callen, Sam, this is Donald Bye... my father."
There was silence.
"I thought your father was dead? We solved his murder 3 years ago Kensi, Peter Clairemont, how is this possible?", Sam responded slowly, as if he couldn't comprehend the information I had just given him.
"I don't know - I - he just - I-" I choked up as Callen swiftly pulled me into a bear hug. I wrapped my arms around his waist and sobbed into his shoulder, indulging in my older brother figure as he held me tight. When I looked up again a few minutes later, all three of my colleagues were staring at dad, eyes narrowed.
"I think you should come with us sir", Sam suggested to my father, although it was less of a suggestion, more of an order. He sighed deeply and nodded, following Sam out of the restaurant and to the outside parking lot. Callen put a protective and comforting hand on my lower back, silently reassuring me he was there, as he guided me outside, Deeks trailing behind. Sam escorted my dad to the challenger and they both got in, then driving off to the boatshed where we were going to meet them. Callen rode with Deeks and I today, instinctively knowing that I needed some support. Ever since Deeks and I got together, I've become overly emotional. He's changing me, and I haven't yet decided whether it's for the better or worse. Callen walked around to the opposite side of the car to me and clambered into the backseat. As I was about to do the same thing Deeks grabbed my hand and looked deep into my eyes.
"I'll be okay", I cut him off before he even opened his mouth.
"I'm here if you need me"
"I know", I responded, giving him a small smile and squeezing his hand in reassurance. He nodded and we both got into the car and drove back to the boatshed, the whole journey in silence.
