Chapter 17 - Confusion

Nell's pov

It was quite late. I would usually be in bed by now buti had stayed up to watch the end of a film. As I was preparing to get into bed my phone rang, It was Kensi.

"Deeks there's someone in my house, I need your help, get over here quick!" , She whispered quickly, then hanging up the phone before I could reply. She must have dialled my number instead of Deeks' by accident. I immedietly called Deeks.

"Hey Deeks"

"Whats up Velma?" , he questioned.

"Did you just get a call from Kensi? She just called me and I think she thought she was calling you. She said there was someone in her house and you need to get over there. Do you want me to call Hetty and alert the rest of the team?", I rambled.

"I'm on my way now. Don't do anything yet - it might be nothing. I'll call you when I get there, thanks Nell"

"Okay bye", I replied, pressing the end call button.

Pacing around my bedroom, I awaited anxiously for Deeks' call.

Deeks' pov

After receiving Nell's phone call I pulled on the closest pair of shoes and raced out the door in my hoody and tracksuit bottoms. I arrived at Kensi's apartment in record time and rushed up to the open door, drawing my gun from it's hip holster. As I burst into the living room, a series of loud crashes sounded from out the back. I hurried round, just in time to see Kensi punch a guy in the stomach before he backhanded her across the face, knocking her down before fleeing down the back alleyway. I ran after him but it was too dark to see anything so I went to Kensi's aid.

"Where is he?", she groaned as I offered her my hand, pulling her up to stand.

"He got away. Sorry Kens, we're gunna figure this out, I promise." , I assured her, lifting up her chin with my tumb and index finger to see the extent of damage that the punch had caused. Luckily, it was minimal but just enough to knock her down.

"Lets go put some ice on that and I'll call Nell", I said as she winced under my touch then nodded in agreement.

As we made our way back into the apartment I pulled out my phone and dialled Nell's number.

"Is everything okay?" , she questioned immediately.

"She's okay, got a nasty blow to the head but nothing serious. I lost the guy round the back. Obviously we need to report this but can it wait till morning? Kensi's nearly passing out on me here, I think that punch made her drowsy." , I replied.

"Well I'll call it in to Hetty now but I think we can just start in the morning. Make sure she gets some rest. Night Deeks."

"Alright thanks Nell, goodnight", I said, hanging up the phone then glancing round the room to see Kensi asleep on the couch with an ice pack on her forehead. Chucklin quietly to myself I scooped her up into my arms, bridal style and carried her into her bedroom laying her down in the bed. I removed her shoes before tucking her under the covers, kissing her on the forehead and tiptoeing out of the room, heading to the couch. After insuring that all the doors and windows were locked - after all we dont need two break-ins in one night! - I dug out the blanket Kensi keeps under her couch and dozed off into a deep slumber.

Callen's pov

As usual I was the first one to arrive at work - besides Hetty of course. A few minutes after I sat down Sam strode into the bullpen, a starbucks in each hand, one of which he placed on my desk as he passed.

"De-caf, 3 sugars, extra foam", he said, taking a seat behind his desk.

"You know me too well", I replied, winking at him whilst taking a large sip of my drink.

At 9.40 a whistling noise sounded. Sam and I simultaniously rolled our eyes as we made our way up to ops after being summond by Eric.  Kensi and Deeks were late as usual. Once we had all gathered around the screen Hetty and Nell began to brief us.

"Last night a guy broke into Kensi's apartment. Nothing was taken but this message was left on the wall of the kitchen.", Nell began, flicking up photos of Kensi's apartment. My eyes lingered on one with the message 'give us your father' writtren in what looked like black spray paint.

"Ms Blye and the intruder had a bit of a head to head in the backyard but she is fine, just has a bit of a bump on her head. The intruder got away down the back alleyway after being chased by Mr Deeks", Hetty continued.

"Hold on a minute, why was Deeks at her place so late?", I interrupted.

"Uh Kensi called me and asked me to send him over", Nell said somewhat unsurely with a quick glance at Hetty, making me suspicious of her explanation.

"Anyway", Hetty said, sternly glancing at me, "In light of recent events in addition to this we have reason to believe that Kensi's father is in fact, alive. Or at least someone thinks he is, which puts Ms Blye in a dangerous position. We all need to be on our guard."

"We need to get to the bottom of this. Starting with that mans identitity", Hetty continued, pointing at the photo Kensi's security cameras had picked up of a man picking the lock of her door.

"Where the hell ARE Kensi and Deeks?!", questioned Sam. He was right; they're never usually this late. 10 minutes maybe, but half an hour?!

"I actually have no idea, I'll call Deeks now.", Nell said, whipping out her phone, dialling Deeks' number then placing the phone on speaker in he centre of the table. After a few rings, he picked up.

Kensi's pov

I was woken by the sound of a phone ringing. I grabbed my phone from the nightstand next to my bed only to find it silent. I dragged myself out of bed and into the living room to see Deeks asleep on the couch, his phone ringing and vibrating loudly on the coffee table. Quickly I shook him awake and grabbed his phone, pressing the green answer button.

"Hello?", I answered groggily, my morning voice yet to kick in.

"Kens?" , it was Callen.

"Cal- oh shit! Sorry we're on our way, the alarm didnt go off!" I exclaimed having glanced at the wall clock to see that it was in fact 9.57 and we were almost half anf hour late for work.

"Deeks! Get up!" , I yelled, shaking him harder, causing him to roll off of the couch and onto the hard wood floor.

"What the?" He exclaimed, finally opening his eyes.

"We're late, I never set an alarm last night, it's almost 10! , I hurriedly replied whilst dragging a nearby brush through the beehive I call my hair.

"Oh crap", He said, jumping up immediately to get ready. Less than 5 minutes later we were in his car on our way to the mission, looking a bit dishevelled nonetheless.
