In the beginning of this part I mentioned that God has always answered my prayers and so I have been very careful of what I pray for. My earliest prayer was to be very intelligent. I have been surrounded by very intelligent people my entire life. You would be surprised how many intelligent people will confess to having made the same prayer as a kid.
The obvious explanation is that people who care enough to pray for intelligence will be the ones who will work to make it happen. On the other hand, these are all very high I.Q. people and that takes more than work. I.Q. is a God given gift.
In my early twenties and not having had all that much success with women, I prayed to God for me to find the right woman before I turned 27 years of age. I married my wife when I was 26 and we just celebrated our 49th anniversary.
I prayed when my youngest son was mistakenly diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. It turned out it wasn't MD, but a type of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis that was correctly diagnosed by a truly outstanding doctor who got my son out of a wheelchair and on to a completely normal life.
I also prayed for our friend Starbuckle13 when she was diagnosed with cancer. Thanks to the prayers and diligence of her husband (who is one of my most favorite people), she got through chemotherapy and is now cancer free.
Did my prayers have anything to do with these results? Probably not, but I'm just superstitious enough to keep praying when I think it is needed. I'll be careful what I pray for. I don't want to mess up my winning streak.
Since this essay was supposed to be about beliefs, I will close with why I believe. I can't say it any better than the song embedded at the start of this part.
"Evey time I hear a new born baby cry, or touch a leaf, or see the sky, I know why, I believe."
