JULIET'S POV:

Ever since the concert, Ed and I had become a little more distant than usual. We still talked on occasion, but we were no where near as close as we used to be. I knew he was on tour in the States, so when February rolled around, I wasn't exactly surprised to be getting a call from him. "Hello?" I asked.

"Hey Juliet! This is Ed. I'm gonna be in town next week and I wanted to know if you wanted to meet up for lunch or something?"

"Sure... But aren't you going to stay here?"

"D'you still want me too? I mean-"

"Ed we had a brief argument or whatever it was. You're still a great friend to me of course I'd like you to stay here."

"Alright! I guess I'll see you in a couple days?" I hung up with a smile on my face, happy to chat with my old pal again.

I spent the next few days trying to clean up my house because I had let it get quite messy. On Friday, I had just gotten home from work and was in the midst of making a panini when my doorbell rang. Sandwich in hand, I went to answer the door. I swung the heavy oak door open and lone behold, Ed was there, a backpack slung on his shoulder. "Ed!" I went to hung him but he took the opportunity to swipe my sandwich and take a big bite of it.

"Hey that wasn't for you!" I protested, annoyed that he had the nerve to take my food. Ed just grinned and kissed me on the cheek hello. He followed me back into the kitchen where I made another sandwich for myself, and this time I put it in the oven so it tasted better than his. Ed had dropped his bag on the floor of the living room and somehow managed to grab a beer in the process. He joined me at the kitchen table where we ate the impromptu meal together.

"So Jules, how's life goin'?" Ed asked in between bites of food.

I shrugged,"Ehh, same-old, same-old. I'm still just Emily's assistant. I got one small bit to write in the January issue, though. It was even about music," I said winking.

Ed rubbed his hands together in mock-enthusiasm, "Ooh and what did it say?"

"Well it was an opinion piece, so I talked about some stuff and at the end I included a playlist. I had a little bit of everything. Some Vampire Weekend, some Jay Z, a little bit of Taylor Swift seeing as she's conquered the world lately, and even some of my pal, Ed."

"You wrote about me?" Ed asked excitedly.

"Of course! I was asked to write about good music so of course I told them what a douchey narcissistic asshole you are."

Ed chuckled," Well I thank you kindly for that, dear."

"Anytime."

"Oh and Juliet? Before I forget to ask, is there anyway you could get your hands on some fancy dress from your work?" I nodded, eyebrows raised at what he was in about.

Ed just smiled, "Good. Because I'd like for you to be my date to the Grammy's if that's alright."

I almost choked on what I was eating, "R-really? You want me to come? With you?"

He nodded, "Yes Jules but only if you want to come..."

"Of course I'd love to go! I just didn't even expect you to invite me. I was planning on watching it on TV."

"The show's delayed, so you can technically be back before it even airs."

"Hmm that sounds nice," I smirked.

The night of the awards I had to start getting ready at about two o'clock because we had to be there by four, and the show started at five. Ed was in town all day for rehearsal, as he was performing at the show but he was going to come back here to pick me up. Thankfully I managed to get a gorgeous dress from work that was actually even designer. It was a magenta color, but it was quite a subtle dress so I wouldn't really be noticed by the public eye. This night was about Ed, not me. I threw on some nude heels I found in the back of my closet. Despite the fact I already towered over Ed, I knew it would be informal to wear flats. I pinned my hair to the side, so it just flowed over one shoulder and I went about my normal makeup routine, with a lipstick that matched my dress and some more dramatic eyes. I didn't look or feel like much. Just Juliet. In a dress. I hated dresses. When I was finally somewhat satisfied, I wandered out of my bedroom to see Ed sat in the living room. In a tuxedo.

I whistled at the sight and joked, "Is that Ed Sheeran? In a suit? Pigs really do fly."

He laughed, "I could say the same to you. I didn't think I'd ever see you in a dress."

"I'm full of surprises."

"So I've learned." Ed held a pink daisy in his hand and he held it out to me.

"Ed, we're not going to the prom. You didn't have to get me this. And how did you know daisies were my favorite?"

"Actually I took it from your neighbor's garden, and the first night I met you, you told me all about how daisies were so pretty and how roses were too cliche for you liking."

I giggled, "Yeah that sounds about right. I'm surprised you remembered I guess. And thank you. It's beautiful." I kissed his cheek in thanks, leaving a dark pink lip print right in the middle of his face.

He rubbed it off and smiled, "Shall we?" Ed lead me out the front door to a black limousine parked in the driveway. He opened the door for me and I scooted inside. I was surprised at the amount of people already in the car, I recognized Stuart, Ed's manager, some other people from his team, his support acts, and a couple older folks that I assumed were his parents. Ed introduced me to the people I didn't already know and I greeted the folks I had met before.

"Hi I'm Juliet," I said reaching out to shake Ed's dad's hand.

When we arrived at the awards, Ed went off to brave the red carpet and the rest of us went in a different way in search of our seats. Somehow Ed was already at the front entrance by the time we made our way inside, so he walked in with us and held my hand in the process. Hand in hand, he walked us up the balcony where all the nominee's family and friends sat. Then he and Stuart went backstage to prepare to perform. It was all quite complicated and busy. The show went by without a hitch. The only things that stuck out in my mind was Ed performance and how well he did like always. And when they announced the nominees for Song of the Year and his face popped up on the monitor and his eyes were so hopeful and ecstatic. I was so sure he was going to win. Before I had time to think I heard the words "And the winner is.... Fun.!" I was confused, why wasn't Ed walking up on stage? I didn't understand. He just happily clapped along with the audience as if nothing ever bothered him, but I knew he really had a hope he would win. The rest of t he night was quite boring. Acceptance speeches, performances, and of course annoying banter. No award show would be complete without that. Soon, people were filing out of the arena and heading to whichever after party they pleased. Ed's mates and I all got in the limo to wait for him and when he finally joined us we all clapped and cheered for him. His cheeks flushed with embarrassment as the driver took us to some after party with people wrote more than my entire neighborhood. It took some convincing, but when the bouncer finally believed he was actually Ed Sheeran and let us inside, Ed grabbed my hand and we headed straight for the bar. He ordered three shots and downed the first two himself before passing the third to me. I could already feel a buzz as the whiskey stung my throat.

Ed leaned in close to me so I could hear him speak over the pounding music, his words already beginning to slur, "You and I my dear, we are going to get absolutely shitfaced tonight." I nodded and ordered two more shots. We sat there at the bar just talking and laughing about stupid things as we watched celebrities make idiots of themselves. At somepoint, a random guy had come up to hit on me, I think I recognized him from some TV show I had seen once, but I wasn't completely sure. He was being quite grabby and I didn't like it. He tried one final time to make a move by actually groping my breast and that's what sent Ed over the edge. "Oi! Why don't you get your hands off her! She's done nothing to you so stop being a prick." I had never seen Ed angry, he usually was quite giggly when drunk, this side almost scared me. When the man finally left, Ed did the thing I least expected. He grabbed my face and kissed me.
