JULIET'S POV:

After Ed left LA to finish the rest of his tour, he went back to the UK for more touring and stuff. Surprisingly, he kept me pretty in the know, he'd always tell me what was up and ask how I was doing as well. He'd try to call at least once a week, but almost always more. I figured from the start he would've forgotten about me by now, and we'd never talk again, but Ed seemed pretty keen on keeping our friendship. We had an eight hour time difference, so it was kind of difficult to keep in touch, but somehow, we managed. I knew he'd be back in LA sometime around Christmas, so who knows, maybe we'd hang out.

It was a normal early December night, a Wednesday actually and I was having my brother, Josh, over along with his wife, Kait, for our weekly dinner. We were all pretty close friends, so we made sure to hang out at least once a week, and somehow I got stuck with the cooking. I was making grilled chicken and Caesar salad, as I really didn't know how to make much else. I was setting up the small four seater table in my kitchen, as I didn't have a dining room, so we always just ate there.

There was a knock on the door, and I checked the clock and realized it was almost six o'clock, so I figured it was just Josh and Kait. "Doors open," I yelled, my hands full with dishes. I heard the door close, so I got back to cooking, but soon I heard footsteps in the room. "Hey guys! Beers in the fridge," I declared, letting my brother know to make himself comfortable. My eyes were still on the stove, so I didn't think much when the fridge door was slammed and a beer was opened. "Where's Kait?" I asked, turning around.

"Who's Kait?" That voice certainly wasn't Josh's. I looked over to see none other than Ed sipping a beer, a smirk played out on his face.

"Ed! Oh my God! It's been way too long!" I exclaimed, setting down a hot tray and wrapping my arms around his short frame. I forgot how much taller I was than him, but his hair was longer now, and he seemed to be catching up to me in height. It was December now, and although I was still in denim shorts and a purple hoodie, Ed had on some dark wash jeans with a leather belt that hung low on his waist, and a orangey-coral colored waffle shirt. He looked adorable.

"So I take it you weren't expecting me?" I chewed on my bottom lip,

"Well not exactly, no. Was I supposed to be?"

"I um sort of left you a message about an hour ago to ask if you could pick me up from the airport, because you said I could crash here when I'm in town right? I'm so sorry I should've asked earlier, it's not too late to book a hotel. Stuart and Trev are near by I think so I can just bunk with them."

"Don't be silly, Ed! A promise is a promise and you're staying here. Ill just have to make up the guest bedroom for you."

He smiled and ruffled my hair, "So who's all this food for?"

"My brother and his wife are coming over for dinner. I got stuck with cooking, so it won't taste too great. But you can join us as well."

"I'd feel so weird..."

"Oh like it wouldn't be weird having a man they've never met before sat in the guest room? As least have a beer!"

He paused and pretended to think about it for a bit, "Oh alright."

"Good. Now help me set the table." Ed chuckled and began grabbing dishes off the counter and placing them where I told him.

Before long, the doorbell rang again, and this time Josh and Kait were at the door.

"Hey Jules!" Josh greeted me, placing a kiss on my cheek and hugging me. My sister-in-law did the same and handed me a bottle of nice Pinot Gregio.

"Well thanks K! You didn't have to do this!"

"I know, but you made the food for umm... all four...of us?" she asked raising an eyebrow. I turned around to see Ed awkwardly stood in the doorway of the kitchen. He waved at me, trying to not reveal how obviously terrified he was of my brother. I could see that, as Josh stood at six feet, eight inches, and had an incredibly low voice. But he was rail thin, an athletic build, and an all around teddy bear. Kait was a bit shorter than me, perhaps 5'3" or 5'4". Her hair was long and a natural dirty blonde, and was long down to them middle of her back. They were both about four years older than me, Josh the ripe age of 25 and Kait still 24.

"Oh umm, this is Ed. He's a good friend of mine who just got back in town. Is it alright if he joins us?"

"Of course! Nice to meet you Ed!" Kait said, waving at Ed. He smiled at her and Josh.

"Well dinner's all cooked, lets eat, shall we?" I proposed, clapping my hands together. We all walked into the kitchen and sat in our seats, Josh pulled out Kait's chair for her, and for some reason Ed did the same for me. I shrugged it off, he was English, they're all sort of raised to be gentlemen I suppose. I passed around the chicken and we all got to eating.

"So, Ed, what do you do for a living?" Josh asked, in between bites of food.

"Oh um, I'm a musician." I swear I saw Josh roll his eyes. Of course I knew Ed was being modest, I mean he had just been nominated for a Grammy for crying out loud. Josh however, must've thought by 'musician' that Ed meant 'unemployed.' In most cases that was the truth, but my brother didn't know Ed had just been nominated for a Grammy, and had already won many other awards. He was successful worldwide, but he came across so normal, you'd have no clue unless he told you.

I kicked Josh under the table and he yelped, "Ow Jules! What was that for?!" I just glared back in response.

"So Josh, what do you do?" Ed asked, trying to change the subject and ease the tension.

"I work with the NBA," Josh explained.

Ed visibly gulped, "D-do you... play?"

The rest of us started laughing, "No my basketball days are quite over. I injured my shoulder back in high school, but I manage the Lakers. Hire players and such." Ed nodded, and it was apparent he didn't pay much attention to sports.

I whispered in his ear, "That's okay, I don't really care much about his job either. But the free tickets are nice sometimes." Ed chuckled and we all continued chatting for the rest of dinner. Ed got along well with Josh and Kait, which was nice. They all had stuff in common, surprisingly, but then again so did I.

At around nine, Kait stood up and grabbed her purse, "Well I've got to go home, I have an early meeting tomorrow. Josh stood up as well, joining his wife.

"You, my friend, are a sad excuse for a 25-year-old," I teased.

Kait just shrugged, "I know, but it's all the beer you're feeding me, it puts me to sleep."

"Alright, well have a nice night, losers."

Kait nodded, "Thanks for dinner Juliet, and nice meeting you Ed!" And before I knew it they were out the door, and Ed and I were alone again.
