JULIET'S POV:

The next morning I woke up to shrill sound that could only be coming from my cell phone. I groggily snatched it off the bedside table, and answered,

"Hello?"

"Hey Juliet! It's Ed. Did I wake you?"

"Oh no, I've been up for hours," I fibbed, realizing it was already 11 o'clock, quite a late start for a Sunday morning.

He chuckled on the other line, "Sounds like it. Well Jules I was wondering if we're still on for lunch today?"

"Of course! I wouldn't miss it."

"Good! I had this fear you wouldn't want to deal with me after you found out who I was..." he trailed off.

"Not at all! You seem like a good guy. I could care less if you worked at a sewer plant, as long as you're a good friend." I could tell he was smiling with his next words.

"I try my best. So I was wondering if you wanted to meet at In'N'Out Burger at 12:30?"

"Burgers? You must know the way to my heart." I heard him laugh.

"Okay. Venice Beach at 12:30. See you then."

"See ya," and with that I hung up. I went about getting ready, trying to look somewhat nice, as he was probably used to hanging out with models and such, but I also had to look like I wasn't trying.

I finally decided on some cutoff denim shorts that hung low on my waist, without making me look slutty. I paired the shorts with some brown leather strappy sandals, and a magenta hoodie with white tassels. My hair was wavy from sleeping in braids, and I went about applying my natural makeup, eye liner, mascara, lip balm, BB cream, the whole nine.

At noon, I finally stopped fussing with my appearance and grabbed my purse, phone, and keys, rushing out the door, as not to be late for lunch with Ed. I hopped in the car and embarked on my journey to Venice Beach. On the way, I got a call from Sarah, so I picked up once I'd reached a stoplight, what was with everyone actually calling lately?

"Hey Sarah."

"Hey Jules! Wanna meet for lunch today? I'm bored." I hesitated, I didn't wanna lie to my best friend, but I could exactly tell her what I was doing.

"Sorry I can't today, I've got lunch plans, but maybe we can hang pig later?" I asked.

"Oooh lunch plans with who?" Sarah asked with a nosy squeal.

"Just a new friend."

"Does this friend happen to be a boy?" she asked slyly.

"Maybe," I said not-so-subtly.

She giggled, "Well have fun with your new... friend, Jules. See ya later." I hung up and set my phone back down, sighing.

Soon I pulled into the burger joint, to see Ed sitting at an outdoor table, smiling at me. I hopped out of the front seat as walked over to him. He stood up and gave me a hug, English people were weird, I rarely gave out hugs, but I didn't really mind Ed's. Plus, he smelled nice.

"Hey there!"

"Hey Juliet!" he greeted me. Ed was wearing some baggy cargo-pant cutoffs, a green graphic shirt with some design on it, which perfectly contoured his torso, and showed off his muscular tattooed arms, he also wore a beat up pair of Nike high-tops, his hair freshly gelled, and his face clean shaven.

He took my hand and gestured toward to door of the restaurant, "Shall we?" I nodded, smiling amusingly, and we walked inside.

Going towards the counter, the clerk looked up at me and smiled, "Hi there, welcome to In'N'Out Burger, may I take your order!" Ed was still thinking so I went ahead and told the lady I'd like a cheeseburger plain, medium fries, and a medium Diet Coke. "Okay that'll be $7.95."

I was fussing with my wallet trying to hand the lady the cash when Ed stepped in, "Erm, actually we're ordering together..."

"Oh I'm sorry sir my bad, and what'll you have?"

"Double cheeseburger, medium fries and a coke please." He handed the lady his credit card which she happily swiped and handed us our meal.

"Ed you know I can pay for my food..."

"Well I can pay for your food to. It was a few dollars, no big deal, plus I like paying, gives you something to owe me one day," he teased.

"And what might that be?" I asked.

"I'll think of something. We found a booth in the corner of the moderately crowded store and began eating our food. Ed sat across from me, as in between bites of food we'd ask and answer each other's questions. The thing I liked most about Ed was how our conversations flowed. There was never an awkward silence, we could just talk for hours on end.

Eventually when we finished eating, I took up our messy trays and placed them above the trash bin. I grabbed my purse out from the booth and Ed and I began walking around the boardwalk. It was a gorgeous day out, rather sunny so we both had sunglasses on, although, I figured Ed also wore glasses to hide from fans. We were just wandering around taking, sipping on our leftover cokes, and meandering through the beachside shops.

Soon the sidewalk came beside a ledge, and me being me, I hopped up on top of it, now standing about three feet above Ed. We continued our conversation, talking about random topics, we just had to talk a bit louder because of the now prominent height difference. We began arguing over which brand of sneakers was best when I came upon a duvet I the ledge and tripped. I almost fell, but Ed grabbed onto my hand and steadied me.

For the next few hours, we continued wandering around, and Ed didnt let go of my hand the whole time. When he laughed, his grip wild loosen, when we pondered a sad subject he squeeze lovingly, all the while, keeping a grip on me, as though letting go would mean we wouldn't see eachother again. As strange as it seemed, it felt as though I'd known Ed a whole lot longer than a couple of days.

As the wind began to pick up, I noticed the clouds turn gray and our beautiful sunny day began to rain down on us. We both ran in the direction of the restaurant, seeking the shelter my car offered. I fussed to get the keys out of my bag, finally unlocking the vehicle. We both opened the door and quickly got in out of the rain. I was sat on the passenger side and Ed in the drivers seat.

"I'm wet," I grumbled. Ed started to chuckled which then turned in to a full blown laugh. I began laughing as well a real belly laugh with tears streaming down our face. "What?" I asked.

"Nothing," Ed stifled, still laughing, "You just look hilarious." I looked in the side mirror, or attempted to through all the water to see my hair was wild and stringy, stuck up in strange places, while matted down in others, and makeup was running down my face.

"You don't look too great yourself," I pointed out, Ed's hair was slicked down against his head, making him look like a little kid, his hair gone from a fiery red to a muddy brown. He ruffled his wet hair, attempting to give it a bit more life, but just looked like a boy caught in the rain, which he was.

"So where're we headed?" I asked.

"Don't look at me, I can't drive," Ed said, throwing his hands up in surrender.

I chuckled, "Okay switch seats with me." Neither of us really wanted to get out, in fear of getting drenched again, so we kind of shuffled around my little car, scooting across the center console, and at one point I was sat in his lap.

After a bit of awkward movements, I was finally sat in the drivers seat, and Ed took my place on the passengers side. I put my key in the ignition and started to warm up the car. My house wasn't far from here, so I suggested we go back to mine to dry off, I often slept in my older brother's hand-me-downs, I'm sure Ed could fit in those. Either that or cram into my yoga pants, now that would be a sight. When we arrived back at mine, I had no idea what the night would entail....
