The date was June 21st, the day that Summer would once again take her place on the Throne.

She woke that day in her room-- appropriately named the Summer Room--and skipped happily out to the hallway.

The whole exterior of their realm was decorated with flowers and patchy earth, since Spring was still sitting on the Throne.

She and the two other Seasons agreed to meet outside her room before congregating in the Throne Room, where the Changing of the Seasons ceremony would commence.

It was a very long and very sacred ceremony, the Changing of the Seasons was.

All of the Seasons had to be present in order for the ceremony to be executed properly.

Once Spring rose from the Throne, no Season would be ruling the earth and the world would fall into chaos.

The order in which they needed to be standing was very specific.

Summer would stand to the right of Spring so she could take her seat upon the Throne easily.

To her right would be Autumn, who would succeed her at the end of September.

To Spring's left would be Winter, who preceded her.

They must all be holding hands so all their powers would be equal before the next Season takes the Throne.

It must start with Spring still sitting on the Throne, then she would rise and step forward, then off to the side, then back again.

The four Seasons must be in perfect sync or else the balance would be thrown-off and the ceremony will be a failure.

This ceremony was extremely stressful and meticulous.

The fate of the world was resting on a few simple steps.

Summer could see the stress and anxiety written on Winter and Autumn's faces as they approached her.

Summer gave them a sympathetic smile, which Autumn returned. As usual, Winter didn't even glance Summer's way.

Summer never understood why Winter resented her so much. As far as she knew, she had not wronged him in any way.

For a long time, Summer's theory about Winter's feelings towards her was the fact that they were polar opposites.

They can touch and interact with each other; if they couldn't, the world would've been thrown off-balance millennia ago.

Winter is human, and Summer is human. It wasn't like she was the sun itself and he was just a snowman. They just controlled different things.

She soon wrote off the theory of polar opposites after seeing Autumn and Spring form a beautiful friendship despite them being opposites as well.

Then again, Winter has always been a bit of a loner... Summer thought to herself. He only ever really talks to Autumn.

"Are you two ready?" Summer asked with a friendly smile.

"Yup!" Autumn beamed.

Winter just nodded.

"Then let's do this ceremony!" Summer continued, beginning the walk to the Throne Room.

Autumn enthusiastically walked in time with Summer, while Winter lagged behind, his hands in his pockets.

He was always wearing a hoodie, even though he never felt the physical effects of cold weather.

What he wasn't accustomed to, however, was his freezing soul.
