It was about noon on a Saturday. The boys were all most likely already in the treehouse, but you were just getting there. Every weekend, you and the guys would spend together.
You knocked the secret knock and the guys let you in. The guys sat in their usual places: Gordie in the back of the table reading his comic book and Chris and Teddy sitting on opposite sides of the table, playing cards. You say across from Gordie. "So how you doing today, (y/n)?" Chris asked.
"Fine, I guess. Nothing out of the usual. What about you guys?"
They all muttered that they were doing just fine, too.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, but not the secret knock. "Vern, is that you?" You asked.
He sighed, "Yeah, it's me."
The guys pushed the table aside for a moment to let Vern in. I pat the space by me for him to sit down and he did. "I'm surprised." He said to you.
"And why is that?"
"I'm surprised that you'd wanna sit by me and not Teddy."
Him saying that took you a bit by surprise. Did the guys know? Was it that obvious that you like Teddy? Well, not just like. You had a massive crush on him for the longest time. But you'd kept your feelings a secret because if he didn't feel the same way, it would be awkward hanging out with the guys and all. But was it truly that obvious?
Your face blushed. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Chris spoke now. "Oh yes, you do! You like Teddy. And we've all known it for a while now. Right boys?"
Gordie and Vern agreed.
"Except Teddy keeps denying it. And you know why (y/n)?"
You didn't say anything.
"Because he likes you too!"
Teddy looked up from his cards now, face red like yours now. "Do not!"
"Do too! Oh it's so obvious. Why don't you guys date or kiss or something and get it over with. There's too much tension."
Gordie chimed in. "Sexual tension." And he and Chris laughed.
Our faces burned red hot. Vern said, "Oh cmon guys. Give em a break. It's got to be embarrassing." He looked at me. "Is it?"
You nodded. Your eyes met Teddy's, and you guys stared at each other for a moment before he looked away. You eventually did too.
"Oh cmon, guys." Chris started. "Don't be so glum. I know we might have teased you just a bit too much, but you should be happy." He motioned to me. "The guy you've liked forever likes you back." Then he motioned to Teddy. "The girl you've liked forever likes you back." He looked at you both now. "That's something to celebrate!" Teddy just glared at him.
"Hey, Chris?"
"Yeah, Gord?"
"Do you think it's time that we go to the store to the food?"
"Yeah I think so."
Every Saturday, someone always goes down to the store to get everyone a little something to eat since we spend just about the whole day together. You usually don't pack your own food because then our parents would ask questions, so you all just bring money to get food. Usually only two or even one person goes. But today, of course today, it was different.
"Hey, Vern, you wanna come too? We could use an extra hand."
"Oh okay." He smiled at you and raised his eyebrows a few times. You just rolled your eyes.
"Have fun you two." Chris said as they were leaving.
You sat in silence for a bit. So naturally you thought about what was going on. Did Teddy really like you too? Or were the guys just teasing you? You might just have to ask.
Teddy just kept shuffling his cards, not knowing what else to do.
"Wanna play?" He said.
"Yeah sure, why not?"
You two played for a bit. He knocked, 12 to 27. Then you knocked, 29 to 17.
You couldn't take it anymore you had to say something. "Do you like me?"
He stopped shuffling the cards, put them down, and looked up at you. "What?"
"What the guys said, is it true? Do you actually like me?" Your face blushed like it had earlier.
"Do you like me?" He asked.
You frowned. "Hey, no. That's not how it works. I asked you first."
"And now I'm asking you."
"That's not how it works."
"Really? Is there a rule stating that whoever asks first receives their response first?"
"Yeah!"
"Umm, no there's not."
"Is too."
"Is not."
You frowned again. "This is stupid."
You looked stunned. "What do you mean?"
"Doing this, not answering the question. It's silly. We should both just tell each other how we feel and get it over with."
He nodded. "Yeah, you're right."
He moved closer to you and motioned for you to come closer to him. Now there was barely any space between you, with no table in between. You just studied his face, wondering what was going to happen next.
Suddenly, he was on top of you and kissing you. This took you by complete surprise. It lasted for a bit longer when he said, still on top of you. "Does that answer your question?"
You smiled. The two of you sat up. At least you knew now. "So does that mean we're like dating now or something?"
"Yeah, something like that." He smirked at you.
You guys talked for a bit when you said, "where are the boys? They've been gone for a while now."
"You wanna go look for them?"
"Yeah sure."
You guys moved the table, unlatched the door, and was going to go down but something was in your way.
Gordie, Chris, and Vern were all looking up at you and Teddy, clinging to the ladder. They all smiled simultaneously.
"Have you guys been here the whole time?" Teddy asked.
They all replied at once. "Yep!"
