(19) Carolyn Grandfield
I entered the party at ten, my green dress standing out from all the other people dressed in old rose and black. I walked down the stairs of the ball and made my way toward Kara. "Carolyn, you look. Gorgeous." She kissed both cheeks and pulled away from me. "I thought you wouldn't come."
"How can I not? Kieran's my best friend like you said, of course I would come." I smiled at her as real as I could and slowly shrunk my smile when Alice started to walk toward us. I excuse myself to Kara and went to turn around to leave but Alice called out my name.
"Carolyn! I was looking for you everywhere!" I took a deep breath and unclenched my hands as I slowly turned around to face her. "I need a favor, you're an excellent singer as Kieran puts it and I wondered if you could sing us a song?" I couldn't help to notice the way she said excellent with sarcasm.
My heart jumped like crazy against my rib cage and my breathing hitched up. "I, I think it's a wonderful idea Alice, Carolyn has a great voice." Kara interrupted my stuttering to give an opinion herself and turned to look at me. "Don't you think Carolyn?"
No! It was a bad idea I wanted to scream to the clouds but I couldn't bring myself to. "Yes, of course. I would love to sing." I choked out with a clear of a throat and nodded my head.
"Hey, everyone." Alice looked around as she clunked her glass and finally spoke. "Carolyn is going to delight us with a song, a special request from me." I expect them to ignore it but they surprised me by clapping their hands. "Go to the stage!" She hurried me to the stage and dragged Kieran with her, her arm hooking at Kieran's arm as she stood in the front with him and the crowd standing behind them.
Alice ran her hand up and down Kieran's arm, her face holding nothing but victory. She was doing this on purpose, for me to see that she had won. Didn't she already know that? There is nothing left for me to do, he was rightfully hers and I understand that.
A pack member came and gave me a microphone, at that my heart started to beat fast as I stared at the crowd that was looking at me impatiently. I nervously walked toward the band and told them the name of the song I wanted to sing.
They nodded their heads and I turned back around to face the crowd with a deep breath, my heart being jumpy and loudly against my rib cage as I stared at Alice and Kieran. "Give me love like her, 'Cause lately I've been waking up alone. Paint splattered teardrops on my shirt, told you I'd let them go."
"And that I'll fight my corner, maybe tonight I'll call ya, after my blood turns into alcohol. No, I just wanna hold ya. Give a little time to me or burn this out, we'll play hide and seek to turn this around, all I want is the taste that your lips allow."
"My, my, my, my-y, give me love, my, my, my, my-y, give me love, my, my, my, my-y, give me love, my, my, my, my-y, give me love, my, my, my, my-y, give me love."
"Give me love like never before, 'Cause lately I've been craving more and it's been a while but I still feel the same, I told you I'd let you go yeah. And that I'll fight my corner, and that tonight I'll hold ya, after my blood is drowning in alcohol. Uh, no I just wanna hold ya."
