5. They're Finally Gone!

Chapter 5:

Lily's POV:

As I slowly gain consciousness my body is assaulted with pain. I groan slightly and crack my eyes open and find myself in a brightly lit, white room. Strong smells attack my nose and I hear beeping noises.

I'm in a hospital!

How the hell did I get here? What happened, all I remember is falling down on the side of the street.

"Lily your awake!" a voice says.

I look over and see Cole, Kayli, and Taylor rush to me.

"..... What... Happened?" I croak.

They look at me sadly,"We know what your parents have been doing to you," Kayli whispers.

My eyes widen,"Wh.... What?!"

"Why didn't you tell us?" Cole asks, obviously hurt from me not telling him this huge life threatening secret.

I slowly shake my head,"It's not something I want to scream to the world," I snap,"And Nick left me because he found out. Also if I told anyone, I know my parents would find out and probably kill me."

Cole shakes his head,"Well it doesn't matter anymore, they can't hurt you now."

I stare at him confused,"What do you mean?"

"I called the police!" he tells me,"They're going to jail."

My eyes widen,"What!!" yea it's a good thing but its just a shock that I'm finally free of them.

I suddenly smile and lean up to hug Cole,"They're finally gone!" I whisper.

He smiles and hugs me lightly,"And your coming to live with me."

I pull back,"Will your uncle be ok with me staying?"

He nods,"Yea, Uncle Tom won't care, he likes you."

I smile and lay back on the hospital bed.

The doctor then walks in, he flips through some papers then checks my vital signs.

"You are very lucky that your boyfriend here found you," he says smiling,"You suffered a concussion, broken rib, many cuts, and a very deep stab wound on your left thigh," he tells me,"Im surprised you woke this early, but in a week your ribs should heal more, the bump on your head from the concussion will go down and the cuts should heal without scars except for the one on your leg which should take about a month of two to heal. But in a few weeks you should be able to walk a bit."

I nod and he says ill stay in the hospital for a few days to make sure my concussion isn't anything more serious, then I'll be able to rest at home. Well at Coles home.

After he leaves, a pair of policemen walk in.

"Lily Colwells?"

I nod.

"Im officer Daniels and this is my partner office Williams," the man with blonde hair introduces,"We're here to question you about your parents Mac and Lisa Colwells."

I nod.

"They have been taken into custody for illegal drug use and suspicion of abuse of their daughter, you!" he continues,"So have they ever hit you in an aggressive manner?"

I notice that he has a note pad and office Williams has a tape recorder.

I decide its best to tell them the truth, the truth which I've never told anyone.

I take a deep breath and nod,"Yes!" I whisper.

"How long has it been going on for?" office Williams questions.

"They beat me eer since I was seven years old!"

I hear Kayli and Taylor gasp in horror and Cole looks shocked, sad, and angry!

"How often we're the beatings?"

"Almost every night."

"And what do you remember about last night?" office Daniels asks.

I gulp and try to remember," I went to softball practice after school then hung out with Cole," I tell them,"We watching a movie at his house and lost track of the time. He dropped me off near my house at about 5pm. My father was yelling at me as usual and demanded where I was, I didn't tell him about Cole though..."

"Why didnt you tell them?" office Williams questions interrupting me.

I sigh,"My parents think I shouldn't have friends, and if they knew they would probably call me a slut or want me to steal money from him or something. Anyways my father got mad and started hitting me then my mom gave him a knife!" I don't finish because the horrible memories are coming back.

The officers nod,"It's alright but one more question," office Daniels says,"How long have they been useing illegal drugs?"

"Ever since I was little. They get money somehow to pay for them, while use my own for food," I shake my head,"They didn't even own that house. They broke into it and have been living there for free for years."

Officer Daniels finishs writing on his note pad and looks at me,"That is enough for now but you will be needed in court later and maybe more questioning at the station," he pats my shoulder and smiles warmly,"I hope you get better."

After officer Williams also says goodbye they leave and I'm left with my friends.

I notice Taylor yawn and that she's in her Pj's, I also notice it's like 8am but who knows how long I was unconscious for.

"You guys don't have to stay, I'm fine here...."

"No!" Cole interrupts,"We won't leave you." My friends nod in agreement.

I sigh and look at Taylor,"Im sure your parents are going crazy and you have finals this weeks," I look at Kayli,"You need your sleep, I'll be fine here."

They look reluctant but nod, Cole puts his hand on my cheek though and strokes it lightly,"Well I'm not leaving and you can't make me."

I sigh knowing he wont leave, I'm kinda glad though becuase I didn't want him to leave.

Taylor and Kayli come over and hug me lightly then leave. Cole sits by my side and is quiet a moment then he sighs,"You should have told me," he says looking at me.

"What would it have mattered anywa..." I start.

"No!" he cuts me off,"We could have stopped this," he gestures to my beaten body,"If you would have told me we could have called the cops and they'd be in jail just like they are now."

"I was afraid!" I blurt out.

He stares at me confused. I sigh,"I was afraid of you leaving me and also of my parents coming to me before the cops came."

"I would never leave you...."

"How was I supposed to know!" I shout with a few annoying tears running down my cheeks for no reason,"When I told Nick he left me, I was with him for two years! I only met you this year, how did I know you wouldn't leave me to? And it's not something I want everyone knowing."

He stares at me then pulls me into a hug,"Well I won't leave you," he tells me,"I will never leave you, I love you!"

I pull back and stare at him with tears still in my eyes, but now their happy tears. I smile and hug him harder then he climbs into the bed next to me and we fall into a much needed sleep.
