22. Phone calls

Chapter 22:

Recap: I enter a room,"What happened?! whats going on?!" I shout looking around. I find Simon near a wall looking at the ground. I follow his line of sight and almost scream myself.

Amy Withers lays unmoving on her bed DEAD!

I stumble backwards,"Holy Shit!" I gasp.

Cole's POV:

Simon gets himself together and moves in closer to examine the body. I guess he hasn't seen a dead body in awhile and was caught off guard.

I stay by the door away from him and Nick's once living mother. I usually don't get grossed out by things, but this is a fucking dead body for gods sake! I may have killed two people but it was on accident, self defense. This...This is just too much for me.

"Find anything?" I ask Simon while covering my nose from the smell. Its a wonder we didn't notice it when we first got in the house. It smells like….well it smells like a rotting corpse.

"She seems to have been dead for quite some time," Simon answers,"She has hand shaped bruises on her neck, meaning she was killed by being chocked to death. There are no signs of much struggle so I'm guessing she was murdered while asleep."  

"What do we do now?" I ask him.

He sighs and stands, taking off his gloves,"Well we report the body and set about finding the killer."

I frown,"But we know who did this, it was Nick."

Simon shakes his head,"There's not enough evidence to support that accusation. Also my boss will have my ass for breaking in here without a warrant."

I run my hand through my hair in frustration then storm out of the house to cool off. I don't have the best temper these days.

The sound of my phone ringing startles me.

I dont recognize the number but answer anyways.

"Hello?" I ask.

'Hey Kayli, you'll never guess what!' the other person says happily.

I frown,"Lily?!"

She's quiet for a moment,'Umm who is this?' she asks,'I'm sorry but I meant to call my friend.'

"Lily, it's me Cole!" I tell her,"Where are you? Has he hurt you? Are you ok?" I question frantically.

'I'm Fine! No thanks to you!' she hisses angrily,'And no he hasn't hurt me, he would never do that unlike you!'

I pause confused. Why is she saying this? "….Lily why are you saying this? I don't know what he did or tell you but its all lies-"

'NO!' she cuts him off,'Your the one that lies. Now stop trying to find me and Leave. Me. Alone! I don't love you nor will I ever!' she shouts at me through the phone.

"Lily…" I croak, feeling her words tear me apart.

'Goodbye Cole!' the call cuts off.

I lower my phone slowly.

"Cole, i'm sorry I can't do more but….. hey what happened?" Simon asks, I didn't even know he came outside.

I shake my head,"Something is wrong with Lily. Nick must have done something to her."

He frowns,"What do you mean-" he's cut off by his cellphone ringing. "Hello?"

I turn away from him and gaze off. Even though I know Lily didn't mean any of that, it still hurt.
