Jake's POV
I've been feeling incredibly alone. Scottie left town completely and he didn't even have the guts to tell me. I found out from his mother. Nick has been extremely quiet, he even eats his lunch at a table by himself and doesn't say a word. And me? Well I guess you can say I've been handling it a little better, but I still wasn't as happy and loud as I used to be. The only person talking to me was Megan, and that wasn't much fun. She would only come up to me and talk about how perfect school is now without Crosania. Truth is I actually miss her. Everyday, when Emily would notice Crosania's flowers were dying by her locker, she would skip phys ed class just to go buy more flowers. I never actually realized how many people in this school liked her.
It made me feel even worse. We killed the bundle of joy that everyone liked. Now we're hated to a point that students want to murder us. Later today I had to go to the police station with Megan. She claimed that she was going to get Nick in trouble since Scottie left, and I didn't murder Crosania. I felt kinda bad. I don't think Nick meant to involve himself in this situation in the first place, unfortunately he ended up being a suspect. Just to think, we've all been friends with each other for years, and here we are now, ratting each other out. And every time I would try to talk to Emily, she would just ignore me or blame me for Crosania's death. Life, just isn't the same. Right now, I was at my locker, shoving my unnecessary books inside and grabbing my five dollars for lunch. I turned my head to the side and noticed a rather sad looking figure walking towards the cafetaria. Emily. I will stop at nothing to talk to Emily. I honestly hated having people mad at me. I shut my locker, locked it, and began walking down the already half empty hallway.
Once I reached the cafetaria doors I opened them. As soon as I walked in, all of the talking and noise from other students came to a complete stop. I felts dozens and dozens of eyes mainly focused on me. I went up to go buy my lunch and sat down at a table with Megan and her snobby "friends". "Meg haven't you noticed school has been........different?" I said looking straight into her eyes. She scoffed, and said "if we're still talking about Crosania's death, I don't wanna hear it, period." I was about to say something until I noticed Megan's facial expression turned into a look of disgust. She was staring at someone a few tables behind me. Emily? I spoke "Megan?" She didn't budge. I waved a hand in front of her face and said her name once again. Still, she didn't move. I clapped my hands in front of her face and she jumped a little from the loud startling noise. "I hate her" Megan hissed. I didn't know what she was talking about until, I saw her point a finger towards Emily's direction. "What? You hate Emily?, she's done nothing wrong" I truthfully replied.
"Yea well, something's not right about her, I feel like her innocence is all an act". I didn't even know who to agree with anymore. It seems like the entire school is in a suffocating tension. I didn't like it one bit. Once we got onto the subject of Emily, it felt like it would never end. Megan kept rambling on about her as I quietly nodded my head yes, even though I had no idea what she was talking about. I hope my life turns out alright.
