Bits of sun escaped into the room. It was almost beautiful. My breath came out short and jagged and you could see it as if it were a crisp autumn morning. The air was still and time had slowed down.
Murphy was in the corner sniffling like he had a really bad cold. I felt bad for the kid. He didn't ask for any of this. I looked away from him ashamed that I was once his hero.
Raven and Ray were discussing details and solidifying their plan. She was to fight the Void and get in the room. Once in the room, harvest the power and get out. Simple. Neat. Flawed.
I leaned against the wall and slid down until I was sitting on the floor next to Lazarus. I gritted my teeth thinking about him. I kicked out my foot hitting his leg out of anger. I was so frustrated by this entire ordeal.
I began to chew on my thumb nail, an old habit. It started to bleed and I kept chewing trying to figure out how to get Murphy to safety. I didn't actually believe Ray would spare the kids life.
In the little less than an hours time I've been here, Ray has killed two people just because he could. I stared at the dead girl still with half her head on the table. No one moved her body, they just kept working around her. Sidus was still in the corner brushing her brothers hair out his face tenderly giving him sweet kisses on his forhead like he was sleeping. She sat with her back against the wall with Lunae's head in her lap. She smiled and patted his cheeks like a child.
Sweat made my shirt damp and I yanked on it to pull it away from my skin. I didn't know what to do. There was nothing I could do. Everyone was going to die. Ray and Raven were going to win. There was nothing to do. My heart began to race as the panic and realization of our impending doom was around the corner. I tried to rack my brain of possibilities with none coming to mind.
The ground began to tremble. It was slight at first, barely noticable. Soon though the tables began to bounce dramatically, peoples heads bobbing up and down to the beat of the quake. I looked frantically for Murphy and watched as he crawled underneath a nearby table. I grabbed the sides of the wall and lifted myself onto my feet.
"What imboceil broke the balance generator?!" Ray screamed, "We have that thing for a reason morons!"
The boards on the windows began to crack open. Soon the boards were flying off and the glass shattered. Instinctively I raised my arms to protect my face and closed my eyes tightly. I could hear people screaming in the distance.
Suddenly everything stopped. I lowered my arms slowly and opened my eyes. Some people were under the tables, others lied on the floor with their arms over their heads. A few stayed where they were stationed and attempted to resumse working as if nothing happened. Raven stood there confused looking at the ceiling. Ray was standing next to her scowling.
"Now I have to get some nerd to fix that." He scoffed.
There was a strong breeze lifting debris off the ground. I squinted my eyes looking at the ceiling. There was a large hole of to the side. Wires sprung loose and sparks flew freely. The sun beamed through urgently as a shadow began to block the rays.
"What is that?" Raven asked mystified.
A purple ball of fire began to lower itself down through the ceiling. The flames were wild but no heat came from them. I watched with the others in amazement and confusion. The flames opened and blossomed like a flower revealing Micah in the center. Her eyes were completely purple and her hair flew in every direction. Her mouth was firm and her jaw clenched.
Raven reached for a gun. Instantly her hand was gone, just a nub at the wrist. She screamed a second later hysterically. She looked at Micah who wouldn't even acknowledge her.
Micah glided towards me slowly. She didn't look mad or angry or upset. She had the look of determination on her face. I backed against the wall and waited for her to reach me. I tried to slow my breathing down but that only seemed to make it worse and my lungs went into over time.
"I told you to stop." Micah said evenly, "I warned you to listen to me." She was so calm about the entire situation and it made me even more nervous.
"Micah, she's my sister." I reasoned.
"You do not know what you say." She said, "And now there are consequences to your actions."
I looked at the people at the tables as they slowly disintegrated in front of me. It was almost like they had always been made out of sand and with the strong wind, they were being blown away. Murphey cried out in fear and Micah turned to face him. She flew to him quickly bending down to see him.
"You do not belong here!" She yelled, "Does no one listen?!"
Raven shrieked as her body began to dismember and she collapsed into a pile of dust. Ray looked calmly at the situation and raised his hand a gun firmly planted in it.
"Do you really think that will kill me?" Micah smirked.
"If we all have to die, it's going to be my way." He fired the gun and it hit the leg of the table Murphy was under.
Micah began to laugh, "You missed."
Ray smiled, "No I didn't."
I looked at the table and realized Murphy had crawled under the table of finished bombs. They started to roll off one by one rattling into each other. Finally enough hit the first one and it went off.
Bright white heat rushed to my face.
