Somedays I don't know if I am the hero of my own story or the villian. Sometimes I don't even think I'm the main character. That day though, I realized how cowardly I truly am.
Micah taunted me, singing that stupid rhyme over and over again. She threw her head abcka nd laughed at me. Tears stung the corners of my eyes as sand kicked itself into them. The dust clouds formed high above the both of us as Micah threw her arms out and twirled around and around singing over and over and over again.
"Ring around the rosey," She danced in a circle with one of the rebels skin suits, "Pocket full of posey!" She began to skip holing the sagging hands as the suit dragged in the dirt, "Ashes to ashses!" She threw her head back screaming the lyrics out, "We all fall DOWN!" she plopped like a toddler in the dirt.
"What do you mean Omega is alive?" I asked her.
"Ring around the rosey" Micah stood back up and began to sing again.
"Micah shut up and answer me!" I took out my gun and aimed it at her.
"Pocket full of posey!" She skipped in the circle holding the same skin suit.
"Micah listen!" I pleaded.
"Ashes to ashes." She laughed manically.
"Stop it! Stop it now!" I yelled.
"We all fall-" She looked at me dead in the eyes again smiling, "Down." she bit her bottom lip giggling.
There was a terrible rumble and I turned quickly to see the motel room begin to crumble into dust particles. The particles flew in all different locations. I shielded my eyes with my forearm but I couldn't cover my ears fast enough. The piercing screech of agnoy was heard all around us. It engulfed us in it's high pitch cry for help.
I shot blindly and madly in Micah's general direction. Each bullet melted before it even came close to her. Droplets of metalic ooze dripped to the ground stained the already dirty path even more.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked.
She appeared in front of me. Our noses touched she was so close. I could smell her fresh scent. She radiated heat and it caused me to sweat more, "Because it is right." she responded. I looked at her bitter. She smiled though and patted the top of my head, "You will understand when you see Omega."
"You killed innocent people! How is that right?" I demanded.
"You say they are innocent!" Her eyes grew dark purple. Her lips tinted violet, "You say they are innocent but that does not make it so!" She yelled.
"What did they do then?" I looked at her, challenging her.
"You do not know what you are asking. Stop now. While you are so far behind. Do not find Omega. Let her be. Leave Effy. Do not ask these questions when you cannot handle the answers." Micah's eyes began to ease. She took a step back looking at me worried.
"I need the answers." I thrusted the knife I held deep inside her. She looked stunned for a second.
"Your parents were right to get rid of you." She threw me on my back in the middle of what was once a room.
I scrambled to my feet in time to watch her heal. She threw a ball of purple fire at me and I lunged away from it falling on my stomach. I spat the dirt out of my mouth coughing as I felt a foot land on top of me. I could feel her crushing my insides.
"Mind if we cut in?" I would never forget that voice.
Ray stood in the previous entrance with his daughter Poxleitner. She tilted her head to the side like a confused dog. Raising her left arm, the images tattooing her body began to dance and swirl. They left her skin and swirled around Micah mischeviously. Micah swatted at them but they landed on her. They seemed to be eating her system. Sparks sputter out of her as she screamed hysterically.
"Effy is alive! She can find Omega!" Micah began to yell.
I stood slowly up and watched Micah as the images from Poxleitner's arm destroyed Micah little by little.I watched her as she panicked trying to heal herself but unable to. Micah started to crumble. Her wires were untangling themselves, freeing themselves from her control. And I watched.
"Only I know where Effy is! You'll never find her without me!" Omega bargained.
I watched with cold eyes. I felt nothing. The seed of hatred had grown roots and spread throughout my body. I walked casually up to Micah and grabbed her chin to look deep into her eyes. I should have stopped it all. I should have told the girl to stop and find out where Effy was. I should have been looking out for her, trying to help her, save her. Instead I wanted to make sure Micah died. I wanted to make sure she died in the most excrutiating way possible. I despised her so much. She did nothing but cause more confusion and harm.
Micah squirmed trying to get away but I wanted to watch. I wanted to see as her eyes grew dim and all the cricuits were finally broken. I wanted to watch her in pain. I wanted to see what it looked like to die for an A.I. bot. I dragged her chin back to face me. My eyebrows knit themselves close together. I snarled at her as she winced. I chuckled at her. She didn't seem so tough now that her time had come to an abrupt end.
Poxleitner's hair flew around her small frame as the images kept coming off her arms and onto Micah. The smallest of smiles formed on her face like she had been waiting for this moment for a long time. I wondered how long. Ray had his hand protectively on her shoulder. I brought my focus bck to Micah.
"She'll die if you don't get to her soon." Micah spat. Her pride still tried to prove she was tough, indestructible.
I grinned at her slyly, "Good."
