Two miles to Omega.
I trudged in the familiar red dirt, kicking it up behind me. My pace slowed from the sprint I had been running at. I tried to catch my breath and wipe the sweat from my brow. My chest heaved as I tried to calm my beating heart.
I thought about the mystery of Talia. First of all, who was she? How did she know so much about whatever mumbo jumbo she was spewing? Why did I have to be told and what time ran out?
Secondly, what the heck was she talking about? Omega isn't a twin and she isn't overly smart or strong.
"Hey." The voice sent shivers down my spine. I turned to see Murphy standing there with her long blonde hair and deep tan skin, "Miss me?"
"You're a hallucination. So no." I faced foreward and continued on my hike.
"You broke the Void. Everyone's out for tea time." She said.
I thought about the Void and how empty it was. Shivering out of reflex I looked at the blue eyes staring back at me, "I saw you die."
"Yeah and then I came back. Super huh?"
"Why are you haunting me? Because I killed you?" I questioned.
Murphy laughed, "You didn't kill me, champ. Micah killed me. You tried to stop me."
"I let you come with us."
"I would've gone either way." She put her hands on her hips and laughed again.
"What are you doing here?" I peered at her suspicious.
"My parents weren't in the void." She said quietly.
"I'm sorry kid."
"There was talk in the Void. About Omega." She looked around us like someone was listening.
"What kind of talk?" I asked.
"Omega created the Void. Omega rewrote history. None of this is real, it's like her doll house." Tears began to well up in Murphy's eyes, "I'm not real."
"Shut up, you're real. I'm real. This is all some conspiracy theory some kook created. None of the lies are real." I shook my head.
"Think about it!" She cried, "I can't remember my parents faces, they weren't in the Void!"
"I'm sorry you forgot your parents faces but-"
"Their names! I can't remember their names!" She screamed
"Maybe it's a side effect from the Void." I reasoned.
"My last name! What's my last name!"
"You never told me." I shook my head.
"What's your name?" She challenged.
I stared at her frozen. What was my name? Why couldn't I remember, "I know my own name." I scoffed.
"Then what is it?" She asked.
"Stop it! I'm not playing into your games! There is a reasonable explanation for all of this!"
"Welcome to the Doll House." She said, "Where we all go to die."
"Stop! Stop! Enough!" I glared at the nine year old in front of me, "It's not true. I'll prove it. Omega is at home waiting for me. She'll explain everything."
"No she won't. She'll kill us all. This is all a game." She shook her head sadly.
"Murph, come on. I met your future son. You live, you make it." I walked up to her and embraced her, "Everything will be okay."
"I'm sorry, but you're wrong."
I drew in a deep breathe and let it out slowly, "Omega will explain all of this." I said to myself, "Come with me." I asked her.
"No way," she got out of my grasp and looked up at me, "I'm not ready to meet my maker." She backed up and started to walk away, "It was nice knowing you though."
"Murphy!" I yelled at her as she walked away, "Come on! Don't be like that!" She disapperead in the dust clouds and I was left standing there alone.
One mile to Omega.
My nerves began to get the best of me. Thoughts flooded. I couldn't piece any of it together. Omega was my baby sister, she wasn't my twin. How could we be twins?
So much didn't make any sense. Omega was a key to something, but to what? Why was Lazarus so crazy? And Raven? Why were so many people bent on keeping Omega dead or worse, alive? Why was I so scared to see my sister again?
I sat down on a boulder. I didn't think I could go any further. My hands were shaking and I was ready to pee myself I was so terrified as to what I was walking into. I threw up between my legs. Wiping the spit from my mouth with the back of my arm, I wiped it off on my pant leg.
I ran my hands through my hair trying to piece together anything I could. What was truth? Taking in a deep breath, I ket it out slowly trying to calm down.
I squirmed uncomfortable and looked down at my hands and feet. I left my duffel who knows where. I pulled the picture of Omega out of my front pocket and stared at it. She looked so happy and carefree. Her hair was long and played in the wind. I could hear her laughter through the picture.
Something in the back of my head kept nagging at me though. Something Micah said. To remember my parents. Who were my parents? Some scientists gone mad? How would I know? Would I ever find them?
The color drained from my face. When I first met Micah I was watching rebels get killed. She said her creators were of the captured. Were they my parents? Are my parents dead?
I decided I needed answers before any more questions popped into my head. I stood up and stormed towards the only person I could think of who would have them. I had to go home and face Omega once and for all.
This had to stop. Everything had to stop. The maddness had to come to an end and Omega needed to start telling the truth about it all.
"Please don't make me kill you."
I turned around to see the voice, "Gretty?"
"Because I will if you go any further."
