We walked into Walgreens as the cold breeze hit us. I grabbed a basket, while Dylan grabbed a cart.
"Dyl, we don't need a cart. This will only take like two minutes."
He smirked, making me think about what he was planning on doing with the cart. "Bri, get in."
"Oh hell no. We're using a basket." He walked over to me and picked me up. How did I not see it coming? I tried to squirm out if his strong grip, but I was already sitting down in the cart while he pushed it down the aisle. He was such a child, but he was himself. I loved that about him.
"Starburst, Hershey's, Dots, Milk Duds, anything else?"
"Oh yeah, get like three Arizona teas and some chips. We can all share."
He smiled. "This is why you need to keep coming with me. I need someone to push the cart for me and to remind me about what my idiotic brothers want." I shrugged, trying to make a sarcastic joke.
"Anytime. Just say you want me to come."
"Why do I have to say it when I know you already want to go?"
"How would you know that I want to go?"
"Because, I'll just know. I know you Dyl."
"Fine, then what am I thinking about now?" He stood there shrugging his shoulders, trying to act all bad ass. Get over yourself O'brien.
"You're thinking about the Mets game that was on last night, the Starburst's that you're gonna get to eat, and surfing at the beach house."
"What about surfing?"
"You think you're gonna beat me, but you're not."
"Oh well, we'll see. Not bad Bridget. I guess you really do know me, but you forgot one thing that I was thinking about."
"What's that?"
"How beautiful you are." Oh shit, wait, did he just say that, to my face? I blushed a lot and tried to play it off cool, but that didn't work. I mean, Dylan probably doesn't want to find out his sisters best friends has a huge crush on him, even if he ends up liking me back. Dylan probably just saw me as his sisters best friend who was younger than him. Dylan never even thought of me like that. At least I don't think he has ever thought of me like that.
"C'mon Dyl. Let's go pay." He smiled and reached out for my hand. They linked together and we walked through the rest of the store holding hands. It felt like they matched, like they were meant to hold each other. It felt right.
We drove home in silence just enjoying each others company. All of us "kids" helped load up the car. We were off to the beach house in no time. The parents took one car up, and all of the kids were crammed up in one car. There wasn't much space. Like I said before, I was going to make sure I could sit next to Dylan (which happened). In the very back, I sat in the middle while Dylan sat on one side of me and Julia sat on another. It wasn't the most comfortable spot, but if I wanted to sit next to Dylan, then I had to do whatever needed to be done. Sounds stupid, but those three hours where we were driving up were totally worth it. Julia and I feel asleep within the first fifteen minutes we were driving. Julia leaned her head on the window, while I leaned mine on Dylan's shoulder. He didn't mind it either. Instead, he smiled and took our hands and linked them together. We tried to hide it behind the seat though, that way nobody questioned us. Julia was knocked out so we didn't have to worry about her. As for all my brothers, they seemed to have their eyes on me all the time. They trusted Dylan, but I wasn't to sure if they trusted me with him. They were always super protective and sometimes it came in handy and other times I would get so annoyed.
With the remaining hour in the car, Julia was still knocked out and Dylan was awake. I woke up and let go of his hand. I couldn't believe he was holding it the entire car ride while I was sleeping. I opened my eyes and saw the three boys that were sitting in front of us had earphones in and were tired. Damon was sleeping and Colton was still driving.
"Good morning Sleeping Beauty," Dylan said while looking directly into my eyes.
"Oh, shut up." He laughed and linked our hands back together. I looked up at him and smiled.
"What?"
"Oh nothing, but you sure love holding my hand, huh?" He started blushing and tried to think of an answer.
"So do you not want me to?"
"I never said that."
"Good, then I'm gonna keep holding it."
"You're weird." I smiled and he smirked.
"You're weird."
"How so?"
"Well for starters, you're friends with my sister, second off, you're still in high school and, you hang out with me."
"I'm weird for being in high school? That doesn't really add up Dyl. And I already know I'm weird for hanging out with you."
"Oh yeah, so then that means we're both weird since I hang out with you and you hand out with me."
"That's ok, we can be weird together." He smiled and gripped my hand tighter. I layed my head back on his shoulder and we both shut our eyes and feel asleep for the last 45 minutes of the car ride.
