Perhaps if the stars
lay upon the barren sea,
I will no longer gaze
at the richness of the sky
but at the waters that
gaze upon me.
The sky with its rich
hues of light,
jewels that linger untouched
by earthly hands whose thoughts
desire its touch.
Those empty eyes
that search far above
for they have searched below,
when can they say
"I can never ask for more?"
It pains me to see
the waters gazing
with empty sockets
into blinded eyes
and calloused minds,
their constant whispering
to ears that could not hear
now grown hoarse
for they could never
understand.
If only the stars
should fall upon the barren sea,
I will no longer gaze
at the richness of the sky,
now dark and vague,
the infinite path now shattered
from its upward flight
the flesh can no longer climb.
Then, I can never ask for more.
But alas, they awoke
with tongues slithering,
hissing and drowning
the muted voices of the Soul.
for they will never,
ever understand.
