Beep... Beep... Beep... Beep...
Uggg... where am I?.. Where is everyone?.. I forced my eyes open, and was hit reality: I was in a hospital room. So it was real... what have I done?.. what have I done....
Beep.. Beep.. Beep.. Beep.. Beep.. Beep..
Calm down Winter, calm down. You're still here. You're still alive... Where is everyone? I looked around and saw no one, only a nurse passing my room.
Is there a button to call someone?
I tried to shift and look at the walls next to my bed, but moving hurt and pulled at my stitches. I tugged the clamp off of my finger, and pushed the heart monitor sitting next to me. It fell to the floor. The heart monitor screeched and three nurses came dashing into my room.
"'Bout time you showed up!" I said with a smile. "Now, will someone please get my family in here so they know I'm alive?" A nurse nodded and ran from the room. Two nurses set the heart monitor back where it was and left the room.
Suddenly, I saw Christopher running toward my room, followed by Christian, Andy,.. and Ashley. Ashley was okay. I missed him getting out of the hospital, but he was okay, and the rest didn't matter. Christopher hurled himself on top of me and enclosed me in a warm, suffocating hug.
"Hurry up Chris! I want my turn to hug her!" Christian said, hopping from one foot to the other. Christopher awkwardly let go of me, and CC threw himself onto me, crying and whispering "I'm so glad you're okay... don't ever do that again... I love you so much... I'm so glad you're okay..." He laid down next to me in the hospital bed.
"I love you, too. And I won't. Never again," I said "I promise... and I don't break promises if I can help it." Christian buried his face in the crook of my neck, and wrapped his arms around my waist. "I feel like this should be the other way around," I said with a smile. "And that hurts."
"Why does this hurt you?" CC squeezed me tighter. I winced, and he let go.
" I lied about my scars... I'll show you if you let me get up." Christian rolled off the bed and helped me up. I pulled my underwear back down, took in a deep breath, and pulled up the hospital gown. I heard a small gasp as they saw my scars.
They reached from just below my armpit all the way down to my feet on both sides, across my stomach, down my thighs, and the top and bottom of both of my feet. They were lighter on my shoulders and got darker and more recent down my arm.
"Not all of them are from me." I turned around and showed them my back. I was covered in cigarette burns and scars from being hit with a belt. "Now you know why I hate my parents."
A few tears fell down Christopher's face. "Please don't cry Chris. Please don't cry again." My chin quivered, and I put my gown back down. I wiped hot tears from my eyes and sat down on the bed. "Now," I said "When can I get out of here?"
Next thing I knew, Jake and Jeremy were walking in the room. "Get your stuff, we're getting out of here." I smiled, jumped up from the bed, and ran to the closet to find my clothes.
I paused at the door. "How long have I been here?"
"Well, it's September... thirteenth, I think," Jeremy said, checking on his phone. "Yeah, it's the thirteenth."
Wow, that doorknob is really shiny. "I've been here three weeks?"
"Three and a half, roughly."
I was unconscious on my eighteenth birthday. "Wow. I have a lot of stuff to catch up on. Can we go to the mall?" Silence. I turned around to see everyone staring at me like I was insane. "What?"
"Nothing... sure, I guess we can go to the mall... After we get you home and you change clothes."
"Okay." I turned back to the closet, threw the door open, grabbed my clothes, and ran into the bathroom.
"Be quick if you wanna go to the mall!" Andy yelled through the door. "I'm not waiting all day, you got that?"
"Got it! I'm hurrying! Skinny jeans take effort you know!"
