"Well... For starters I'm not the only one in the house" at that moment there was a crash downstairs.
My head snapped towards the door.
"What in hades was that?" I said.
Diavolo sighed, rather loudly it was more of a groan."why does nobody listen to me?" He said irritated and ran his fingers through his hair.
I ignored him and tried to get off the bed, hence the word tried. I hissed in pain as my legs took my bodies weight. I fell, fortunately Diavolo caught me, which meant he grabbed me under my arms and quickly put his other arm under my legs and picked me up bridal style. He was looking ahead ready to walk out the door when my stubborn self appeared.
"Put me down, I can walk by myself!" I said.
"Sure didn't look like it" he mumbled.
I huffed, "Put me down, NOW"
He looked at me, and hit me with those black eyes. When suddenly he gave me that Devils' smirk.
"Ok then"
He let go of me so fast that I had a mini panic attack. Before he caught me 2 seconds away from hitting the floor. I had closed my eyes waiting for the hardwood floor. I was scared to my wits that I hadn't noticed that I had wrapped my arms around his neck on instinct to slow down my fall.
I slowly opened my eyes and looked down. My eyes almost popped out of my eye sockets. I was about 12 INCHES away from the floor. "What the- how did he catch me without toppling over or at least grunting from my weight."
I looked up at him again, he was smirking down at me.
"Have you reconsidered?" He asked playfully.
I sighted, "Fine you win, can you please take me downstairs. I just want to see the damage"
"All you had to do was ask" he grinned, and began to walk towards the door and out the hallway as we neared the stairs I heard arguing and sniffling. I tried to get down so Diavolo didn't have to carry me down the stairs.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm trying to get down so you don't have to carry me down the stairs." I said giving him a "duh" face.
"It's fine," he said "I can carry you down the stairs."
He went down the stairs so fast and gracefully like he could have done without me in his arms. I was shocked yet again but decided to ignore it as I heard the arguing and sniffling get louder as we neared the kitchen. When we got there everybody turned to look at me and Diavolo.
Soloni was the first to speak, well more like speak and sob at the same time. As soon as she saw me she burst into tears, "ZELIA" she ran over to me and hugged me or at least tried to hug me, since Diavolo was like 5'8 and we where about the same height, which was 5'1. I tried to comfort her as best as I could sending worried glances towards Zarec and Principal Chilon. Zarec came up behind her and grabbed her shoulders gently.
"Zelia needs some space Soloni, she just got up." He said to her.
"Right," she let go as soon as she realized she was making me uncomfortable, "I'm sorry Zelia"
"It's ok I just came down here mainly because I wanted to know why you guys where in my house and what that crashing noise was?"
"Ohh that I'm so sorry, I was trying to make some pancakes for you just incase you woke up but I accidentally dropped the frying pan trying to get it from the upper cabinet." She looked down at the ground ashamed and guilty.
"Ohh, so that's why, it's alright I'm just glad nobody got killed or murdered." I said jokingly. Soloni and Zarec chuckled too.
"So are you feeling better Zelia are feeling any kind of dizzy feeling, fatigue, dehydration, aches and nausea." Asked principal Chilon nervously.
"How about stubbornness, sarcasm, and unwillingness to follow directions." Asked Diavolo. The principal looked at him confused.
"Those are not symptoms."
I punched Diavolo on the chest but it didn't seem to affect him at all. Just made him grin wider.
"Idiot"
"Hey can you put me down on the couch please." He took me to the living room while the others followed. He laid me down on the large couch which was plush, soft, and just what I needed.
"So..." I began, but then stopped. I didn't want to continue
"We were right" Diavolo said frankly.
"Be nice, Diavolo it wasn't easy for any of you to believe it either." Principal Chilon said.
"But Diavolo is right, I guess maybe I just thought..." I paused and gathered my thoughts before I spoke again. " I just though you guys where taking advantage of me, ever since I was little it's been hard for me to trust the people around me. Wether they where family or friends, my mother is the only exception." I had a flash back to when I was 6 years old.
I sniffled, still shaking from what had just happened recently. I looked down at my hands on my lap, "What happened?". I looked up from the chair I was sitting when I heard the door unlock and open. I watched my mother step out her face looking grim, behind her was the principal glaring at her when his eyes landed on me, his demeanor changed, like a switch had been flicked on inside of him. He sneered at me in disgust, he turned to my mother again. "You both are never to set foot in this school again." And with that he slammed the door shut. I looked up at my mother her face was grim but when she saw me staring at her she smiled at me, her smile was unique. Her face was wrinkle-free no dark bags under her eyes and she looked in her late twenties even though she was actually 40. She grabbed my hands gently. "Come on sweetie, let's go." I looked at our hands and then at her. She was still smiling, it was a genuine smile. "Why is she the only one who isn't mad at me?" I thought as I nodded and got off the chair. I walked out with her, when we stepped out of the main office I saw a girl my age she was standing with her mother next to her. They both looked at me like I was dangerous. The little girl looked at me in distaste and pointed. "Freak" she said. I was confused. I looked up at my mother hoping for an answer to the strange word, but I got nothing, I knew something was wrong. She had her head held high, she was so full of dignity, I marveled at the way she composed herself. She was still holding my hand once we got outside. It was dark, cloudy outside, and thunder was booming here and there. I stepped closer to my mom fearing the next lightning to flash across the sky. She looked down at me when she felt my hands grip her legs tightly.
"What's wrong Zelia?" She asked worriedly, Looking at every inch of my face wondering if I was hurt. In a small voice I answered,"I'm scared"
Her face softened, "Oh honey, listen do you hear those thunders and lighting flashes in the sky?" I nodded slowly. She smiled.
"There not there to scare you," she paused grabbing my face in her warm hands, they where always warm. "their there to protect you. When you hear thunder, don't be afraid, be brave, be strong, and most importantly, have hope. Do you understand?" She looked at me intently. I nodded. I looked up at the sky and saw a lightning flash. My perspective changed, they weren't scary they were so beautiful.~~~~~~*end of flashback*~~~~~~~
I looked down at my hands just like I had done at that time. I realized that I wasn't wearing the blouse I had on this morning. I was actually changed into a nice comfy in-house clothing. Which included a gray short sleeve tee-shirt and yoga pants.
"Who changed me?" I said horrified.
At that moment Diavolo tried to cover up his laugh.
