"My feet hurt," Gwen complained.

"We can stop at this truck stop up here," Simon said.

We had been running all night, at some point we passed the state line out of New Hampshire and into Vermont, and since then Gwen has been whining about how her feet hurt and she's tired.

When we finally made it to the truck stop we sat out front and counted all of our money. Simon had grabbed every bit of money in every corner of this house. Me and Gwen both have credit cards under the soles of our shoes. So we put all of our money together and got over $2000.

We went into the truck stop, and found a couple of old men sitting at the counter eating breakfast. We scurried to a table and sat down, the waitress, her nametag said Beatrice, she was a middle aged woman with deep red short hair, and a smile plastered on her face.

"What can I get ya'll?" she said still smiling.

"I don't know...," I said.

"A plate of bacon, with eggs ,scrambled," Gwen said.

"We'll have the same," I answered.

"Ok hone, ill be back in a sec with your order," she said.

When she left , we all put our heads together and tried to figure out what our next move was.

"What are we going to do?" Gwen asked.

"We could go to New York, all those people we could hide there. They'd never find us; we have enough to take the bus."

"That's a good idea," Simon said.

"Yeah we should totally do that" said a male voice behind me.

I turned around and kicked him in the gut before i saw bits of red sticking out from under his beanie.

"Ohmigod! I'm so sorry James are you ok?" I said.

"Yeah just give me a minute," he said from the ground where he was curled up in a ball looking at me with his blue eyes filed with complete and utter pain.

James Flink is a mind reader which is really helpful and really annoying at the same time, and he has a gift for mind control, once again really useful and super annoying. The odd thing is that he says he can’t read my mind or control it… Weird.

"Are you ok?" I asked again.

"Yeah give me a hand." he said extending a his arm.

I helped him up and we sat down at the table , James had a painful look on his face. I then realized that everyone in the diner was staring at us, the waitress then appeared at the table an uneasy look spread on her face with five plates of food. She set the bill on the table, and then set her eyes on James and sighed.

"You want somethin' too?" she asked kind of annoyed.

"No I just ate," James said.

"Well then is there anything else I can do for you?"

"No mam," I said.

When she walked away I asked the question we were all wondering in our heads.

"So James what are you doing here?" I asked.

"My parents were taken also."

"How'd you find us here?" Simon asked.

"I followed Gwen's thoughts, they were rather loud, something about how much her feet hurt, how cute Simons butt is," James said waggling his eyebrows, Gwen's face turned beet red.

"Hey those were my thoughts and you don't need to be yelled to the whole world," Gwen said stabbing at her scrambled eggs.

"Sorry, but I had to find you guys, so I'm sorry about your aunt Tom."

"Yeah it sucks ,but whatever" I said.

"Back to our plan," Simon said.

We put our heads together at that little truck stop on the outskirts of Vermont, little did we know the events happening later on in the next few minutes.

"So its set we're going to New York City," Gwen mumbled

Just as soon as she said that they descended on us, 20 men at least all pulled guns and pointed them at our heads. As they surrounded us James knew what to do he put the thought "Put down your weapons" into they're heads, and they obeyed.

"Forget everything that has happened to you from 7 o'clock this morning until 5 min after we leave," James said to them in they're minds.

After that we put some money on the table and left out the back door and sped through the woods. When we were at least five miles from the truck stop, we stopped for a break. Our breathing had not quickened because we all are stronger than the average human.

"Ok.. so now that we've escaped fate once again," Simon spat, "What do we do .... are we still going to New York?"

"Yes we must stick to the plan," I said," they're memories are erased they don't know where we're going! We can-"

"But Elliot," Gwen said cutting me off," what if they told someone before they tried to attack us?"

"It is a possibility Ellie," Simon added, "they could have easily radioed into base and told the creeps where we were going we could have gone all that way for nothing."

"But James didn't you hear something, anything did you ?" I Asked impatiently.

"No I wasn't listening," James answered," but I think we should change course just to be safe."

"You may be right, but where will we go?"

"Couldn't we just go back to the Academy?" Gwen suggested.

The Academy is the place where we all lived for years; The academy is a place for kids who aren't quite normal (like us) to go to learn to control their paranormal urges. Simon discovered his magic at seven, he kind of actually blew a hole into the side of his house when his mom wouldn't let him have a cookie so his parents sent him to the academy to control and contain his magic. Then their was James his parents sent him to the academy at eight because he was using his mind control to get the other kids in his class to give him whatever he wanted without thinking twice about it. Gwen she went the year I was eleven and she was seven it was Easter and she saw her first ghost. Mom and dad sent her to the academy so she could learn to not be afraid. Me, I was there from the time my father tried to take me away. My mom thought I would be safer at the academy. As soon as I was old enough to walk I had been taking self defense and classes for survival skills. I am a lethal weapon, and I got out of that place as soon as I was eighteen.  The reason Gwen was even home form the Academy was because spring break was this week.

"No they could be in on it too, we cant risk it" I countered.

"My parents have a lake house in Texas," Simon said," We could make it, right?"

"That's almost perfect," Gwen said

"It is perfect," I said turning towards the direction of the road.

"Yea but... how are we going to get there?" Simon asked.

"Maybe we could take the bus like we originally planned?" James suggested.

"We could....but what if we get attacked on the bus?" Gwen said.

"It could be disastrous, lives could be lost," Simon said.

"Then what do we do?" James said.

"We could travel with fake names," said Gwen.

"It's still a risk, and we cant take it," I said.

"Then lets just walk to the road and flag someone down and James could mind control them into letting us take their car and forget our faces," Simon says.

"Now that could actually work."
